They should all be on. Especially Mogwai because they are an amazing post-rock band.

Haven't heard any Mogwai or Lacrimosa yet, but I don't think any of the other four should be here. I guess Radiohead would be the biggest offender.

I went with Radiohead; however, I still don't see where 10cc and Death belong.

Deep Purple: Proto-Prog Queen: Prog-Related
No objection about that.
I'd rather see Radiohead in Prog-Related.

I would, too, better not let The Wizard see this, though, as he thinks Radiohead are one of the most progressive groups ever. ![]() |

Every band/artist inclusion on PA is the result of long and careful consideration among the Collaborators based upon their knowledge and judgement, so nothing has been put in by mistake. Nobody agrees with absolutely all the inclusions so therefore we have plenty to discuss, if anyone disagrees with an inclusion give your reasons - let's hear them!

Absolutely prog, no, but then Deep Purple is categorised as proto-prog and Queen is categorized as prog-related. I have no problem with that. A band like Radiohead is better categorised over-all as alt. rock, but that's a fairly nebulous classification I've always felt. They did become more experimental art rockish with their later albums, I suppose. I guess I'd classify them as pop rock. I'd rather see them in prog-related. But heck, if I ran prog-related I'd open the floodgates to a ton of stuff (Santana, the Doors... but I'd put my foot down with Menudo). Since post-rock is an integrated subgenre at this site, Mogwai should be here. Laccrimosa... I haven't heard enough of them to have a strong opinion. I know many don't consider them to be worthy of inclusion. I must say I really like their song listed at this site HERE. Can't judge by one song (they'd need at least one album that is prog), but "Warum so Tief" sounds like a delightfully (seriously) proggy song to me. So I think they all have a place here - at least under prog-related. Some reclassification might be warranted, in my opinion. My problem is that once you open the doors to prog-related, too much stuff that is not readily identified with the "prog movement" becomes acceptable, but it is a necessary category. I do get the impression that this site is stricter with classic bands than newer ones on the whole. Oh, as for Triumph, I hadn't realised they were included at this site. That was a surprise -- even if it's just under prog-related. |

Deep Purple. "Proto prog"??!! They're are great rock band, blues influenced, but I don't think they're anything prog.
Radiohead, on the other hand, are prog. I liked Rick Wakeman's comment about them; "sorry guys, you're as prog as they come"!!

The majority of those bands shouldn't be on progarchives, as they are not progressive rock.

I dont think there is any merit in discussing Prog-Related or Proto-Prog as if they are accepted here as prog Rock bands.
The Prog Archives merry-go-round: Proto-Prog and Prog-related bands are NOT considered to be Prog Rock bands by Prog Archives. Check out the descriptions for each: http://www.progarchives.com/Progressive-rock.asp#38 http://www.progarchives.com/Progressive-rock.asp#37 Thanks folks! |

Radiohead.
People just WANT them to be prog so they can say that a prog band is popular.
