This is my birthyear and my second favorite year in prog. Had to decide to include just one album by each band/artist. That left out In Camera; Roxy & Elsewhere, Wurdah Itah, Midnight Mushrooms; Starless and Bible Black... And there's not enough poll choices for worthy albums by: PFM, Arti e Mestieri, Dzyan, Henry Cow, Roxy Music...

My favorite is the first album in the poll, and the next fifteen are pretty accuratly placed. What's your most treasured progalbum of this year?

Focus? Genesis? GG? Gryphon? Supertramp? Yes?

All great albums and worthy contenders, but the winner for me is MIRAGE!

Close call between Crime Of The Century and Rock Bottom >>> went for COTC

You and Red running for third place

Maneige's debut and Hamburger Concerto also in my faves

Compared to the poll from 71, this is a very poor year

let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

I agree. But my own top four this year, is in my alltime top 20. I won't make any more yearpolls after this. 72-73 are done by several others.

Happy birthyear, Rocktopus!!!Hug

This one is a little bit easier for me than 1971 (btw, still haven't seen your reaction to my response in the 1971 pollCry...Wink...Smile...Big smile... though it was pretty much said within your Top Five Albums Each Year thread...), at least the list is shorter.

But nonetheless it is still impossible to choose one (like in 1971) as I cannot decide which one of the three (PH In Camera, PH The Silent Corner and the Empty Stage, KC Red) is my favourite. All of them my favourites.

RW Rock Bottom still needs more listenings for me to go deeper into...

Sorry, Fassbinder. And thanks. I did however manage to choose my favorite in the '71 poll. Pawn Hearts is in a unique position to me, maybe in the same way Still Life is to you? It was the introduction to my favorite band, and I do think its one of the perfect albums.

Its not that its better than the rest, just like Rock Bottom (I voted in this poll) isn't better than Silent Corner, Red, You... in this poll. I still voted for it.

Hard to explain. Its irrational, but they've both been hugely inspiring. (so has First Utterance)

Yes, I know it's irrational. Therefore I cannot explain what Tonton Macoute has in it to be one of my faves of 1971. As for Pawn Hearts -- no question, I like this album, but somehow it is still ranked as my No. 5 VdGG album (after Still Life, Godbluff, H to He... and The Least We Can Do...). Yes, you're right -- it's all irrational.

Red Queen to Gryphon Three is the best, in my humble opinion.
