Thanks Black Velvet. I'll have a listen and post my reactions later.
If I only had money to buy the album . . . |

Has anyone here heard of La 1919? I still need to digest their one album but it is sounding very nice. Three relatively unknown Italian musicians plus Chris Cutler and Charles Hawyard of This Heat. Sound like a good combo?
Also, has anyone heard Bob Drake's colloboration with a Netherlander whose name escapes me, a band called AA Kismet? They are not RIO, in fact they are far from prog, but there is one song, called Slick, a short pop song thats really been sticking in my mind. |

Heard of them, but never actually heard their music. From what I understand Cutler & Hayward don't actually appear together - one plays on the live tracks and the other on the studio tracks. Good stuff by all accounts.

In the few spare minutes I have lately I like to go through the different styles indexes and while strolling through the RIO genre I saw this Swiss band called Nimal
There are no ratings ans reviews for them and only the bio by Lise stating that this was a sort of a supergroup founded by the founder of Debile Menthol and she recommends this band for fans of Samla.
I don't remember if this band was mentioned in this thread before, so if this is repeptitive I beg your pardon. If not, has anyone heard of them and/or heard their music?

Based on that Miasma radio show I decided to order Perils. Very cool stuff, forgot about that band.

Let me post this issue I posted in the collabs zone in here as well, since I believe you people are more than qualified and able to adress this matter:
"
When the team gets back in full action after all of our missing persons (including myself) get back to work, I think we need to consider moving Ensemble Nimbus from Jazz-Rock to RIO/Avant. This band, while having some of its current affiliations characteristics, is closer in sound and spirit to the world of RIO/Avant as far as I hear it on their album I have - Garmonbozia.
What do you think?

I'm almost finishing the broadcast and I really like what I hear. The photo they have here in PA kind of represents what their sounds is like really, dark and all, but still with a little taste of humour. I'm definetly more interested in getting the album than before.
Thanks again Black Velvet. |

That would be a right move! I did not even know they are considered to be jazz-rock.
Pick up Secret Chiefs 3 from metal parlours on your way as well.

I've heard of them and their music.
They are very good. Folkish, playful, interesting to listen to. Definetely recommended.
If you wish to hear them PM me.

I definately agree with eugene on this matter. They are worthy of the genre swap. I guess sometimes bands like this tread a thin line, but for them in particular their RIO influences are more donimant.
I have only heard Nimal a few times over, and it was a little while ago so my memory might be a little shady. I used to have 'Voix De Surface' on my computer but it never really sparked too much interest. As vorge said it is quite folk influence in a very playful manor. I think this last part is where the band loses me, I'm not really a huge fan of this type of playful music. But definately give them at try, there is no doubt they are a very talented band. Just not many tastes. Also, Assaf, there was bad news with "Kroko" I was talking about trying to find at my store. The indepant release person can in on Monday and rang up to tell me they had thrown it out! Needless to say I was a little amazed they would just throw a CD out but I guess it was just my bad luck. OK, great, I'm glad to see that I am not alone on this.
I'll wait for Joren to come back (since he is the head of the team) and make the swap, if the Jazz-rock team does not oppose (which I presume they won't). I've written a PM to Dick Heath of the Jazz-Rock team to see if this receives his approval.

Do you know anything about Kroko, Assaf. I'm wondering whether I should be really trying to chase down some of their music?

I have heard of them, and I am almost sure I have one of their albums (Furia) in my mobile Hard Drive, which is currently disconnected (for reasons you know). As soon as I have it connected I'll look if I have it and "tell" you what it's like.
I honestly don't remember right now what their music is like.
I'm sure you have seen already, but in any case here are some links about them:

Yes, I have only discovered this band over the last few days. but definately something I am going to listen to more intently. It is to early yet to make any comments.
Also I wanted to ask I was just going through the stock in my store, do you think $98 (US) is too much for the 6 disc This Heat boxset? Edited by Black Velvet - July 30 2006 at 21:33 |

Oh, man I too want that This Heat boxset.
I saw it on RER for 80$ but without shipping which is free in North America (oh yeah I am part of it now, I forgot ).
I guess it is a good price, although, you should ask them to keep it in the side for you and then do some hunting around the net to see if you find something cheaper (although I don't think there will be).

Well I am thinking this is going to be one of my next purchases, even though it is so expensive. With all the extra material you get plus all their albums it definately seems worth it. I have only heard their self titled album so far, but from what other people have said it is very likely I will like their other material. I was having a look at some of the This Heat material available to order in; for a little bit more their is supposedly a 7 disc set. Does anybody know anything about this or is this just a mistake?
Yeah I saw it on ReR, but unforunately I don't have a credit card so it makes look for things on the internet a little harder, unless I can find something eBay for cheaper. Edited by Black Velvet - July 30 2006 at 22:25 |

I bet Syzygy can answer this to your satisfaction.
Regarding boxsets I was also looking at the Mexican RIO band Decibel boxset released by the deceased Israeli label MIO. 3 cd's for 34$ (w/o shipping).
When I get more settled and less desperate for money here, I'll purchase both This Heat and Decibel.

Yep, that'a the one.
I heard El Poeta some time ago and enjoyed it. I am not sure if the term Chamber Music fits this, but I have heard it being applied to them. It's like they have these musical sentences being brought together to form paragraphs. Hope this sounds logical.
Anyway, look here:
