Why such a compromise, Guigo?

Let the 500th review be one reasonable well, not some utterly rudimentary stranger going, in so few words, " I won't tell anything, cause it has already been told.Yep, this is the greatest. BYE!"

Ouch
Disapprove

I PM'd the author of the PF review inviting them to submit a revision, or to defend their review here.

The JT reviews are a bit vague, but OK.

Wyatt review, yes I'm inclined to agree says nothing, looks like Guigo dealt with it.

The first paragraph is totally uncalled for.

VOIVOD — Katorz
Review by Clark Ashton

4 stars I'll admit this is a piss-poor review for everyone else, but the Iron Gang will see where I'm coming from. I fell in love with Voivod with the release of "Killing Technology", I am lucky enough to have seem them on their "Nothingface" & "The Outer Limits" tours (On the "Angel Rat" tour; they opened for Rush. I love early Rush, but at the time, I was a club show regular). But let me cut to the chase. These shows and albums were a great part, aside form an early infatuation with Yes & Jethro Tull: due to my older sister, of my prog-rock tendencies. This music hit me like a ton of bricks then & still does today. I was very angey when Snake left, but was also disappionted when he rejoined and the result was less than spectacular (Voivod self titled). Katorz is much like that album, and "Angel Rat" a somewhat dumbed-down version of one of the most complex music acts ever.

But far better than what passes for prog today. Don't get me wrong, I love "The Human Equation" by Ayreon, most of what Katatonia, Opeth, and Dan Swano put out, but albums like that, are few and far between today.

This review is borderline for me, what do you guys think?

SOFT MACHINE — Third
Review by wonder_warriors

1 stars This was an incredibly dissapointing album and one stars is almost generous. If your looking for a long rambling incoherant mess this is the place to come. It occasionally does good things but these are seldom and just draw attention to how tiresome the rest of it is.

Also aome of the instruments they use sound rather bad. The greatest example of this is the nasty keyboard noise which pierces your ears then starts grating with abandon. I am sure this same sound was used on Caravan's Nine Feet Underground which this whole album is reminiscent of. Both are over long and rambling. Nine Feet Underground manages to destroy the rest of the album which is great this has nothing to destroy other than itself as its all bad.

So in conclusion. Awful, such a bad album i am tempted to give it away. Actually a chore to listen to. 1 star.

He really doesn't say much about the music, except he hates the keyboards, which he finds similar to Nine Feet Underground, which is by a different band of course.  He goes into very little detail apart from that.

Keep or delete?

I know this is our beloved Andrea, but this review is extremely difficult to understand, even for me...

BANCO DEL MUTUO SOCCORSO — Buone Notizie
Review by MANDRAKEROOT (Andrea Salvador)

2 stars GOOD (or bad) NEWS

I did not understood because the Banco it stop playing Prog and has put to do POP, anticipating the 80's Italian POP.

The music is not badly but lost a lot of that had. Honest "Taxi" that I did not understood. Best "Buonanotte, Sogni D'Oro", reasonable (in order not to say honest...) "Baciami Alfredo" and "Buone Notizie". Luck that Francesco Di Giacomo beyond the salvageable one.

Not ugly... But alone a large fan of the Banco can love this album.

For always yours, Mandrakeroot.

What's the general consensus here?

Personally, I would delete the first, which is quite off-topic (and of course extremely offensive to a Robert Wyatt fan like you!Wink), and edit the second to make it sound a bit more English... Unfortunately, Andrea has admitted to using an online translator, which manages to do things no human being would dream of (and I speak as a former language teacher with 15 years' experience...). Just my two eurocents, BTW...

Regarding the Soft Machine review (which I do not agree with one single bit >> I love the album), but I cab see where this guy is coming from >> if you do not like jazz-rock , this album can be chore to listen to!  He does not like wahwah distorted organs! Fine !

For me it is valid enough to keep (I wish he spoke more of Third and less then 9ft, though)
let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

That's my point, Hugues, he doesn't mention the actual album he's reviewing enough.  I can understand why he dislikes it and that's not the problem I have (everyone is entitled to an opinion of course), I just wish he'd (presuming they're male of course) gone into more detail about the music.

85105 - I agree Jody, edited before I saw your report.

I reckon the others above are OK, if variable in quality.

Me and the reviewer discussed the first paragraph and he agreed to edit it.

I hate to complain about a review for a band I added(not many of them get reviewed... ),but this isn't even 50 words.

THE MARS VOLTA — Amputechture

Review by knukkldrager

1 stars According to the Mars Volta website, this album that every "reviewer" opines about isn't released until September 12, 2006!! I wonder how a bunch of arrogant prog fans feel they have a right to rip off Mars Volta, or any other artists for that matter! I myself cannot give a review because I have not illegally downloaded (stole) someone else's property. This is the last tlme I'll waste my time reading opinions from common ordinary thieves. Especially since there seems to be so many of them here... And don't give me that same ol' song and dance about how you're going to buy it when it comes out, and how spreading illegal copies of someone's work actually HELPS the band. That's all total BS and just a poor rationalization for ripping off and not PAYING for what you're supposed to. I seriously hope a thief in your own neighborhoods takes fancy to something that you own and has the same attitude that you cons here have; oh, I really like that, I think I'll just "demo" it for a while and if I truly like it, I tell all my friends how cool it is and they'll buy one too! Not a perfect analogy I know but I'm so pissed off I can't even think straight! THIEVES!

This is a matter to be discussed in our forums IMO. I wrote a letter to the "reviewer" and deleted the review.

BTW, if I had received an advanced copy I wouldn't like to be accused of theft.  Confused
