surprised how orchid always gets low ratings, albeit being one of their most experimental and bold statements [and the production is quite decent mind you, raw black metal, not THAT's bad production], so here goes:

Orchid- 4/5 [see above]
Morningrise- 3.5/5 [quite good actually, black rose immortal having some of the best epic moments]
My Arms Your Hearse- 4/5 [just beautiful, no 10-and-beyond-songs yet very well written, with one heck of an intro track]
Still Life- 3/5 [not really big on this one, don't really see it as their big highlight]
Blackwater Park- 5/5 [ok, so it's the first i've listened from them, but i don't think it's just bias here]
Deliverance- 3.5/5 [interesting effort but something's lacking]
Damnation- 4.5/5 [same as above; perhaps a combination of the two? LOL]
Ghost Reveries- 2.5/5 [Thumbs Down ok, now i'm biased and i won't hide it; there's plenty of prog metal around; the reason we love opeth is because they do something different; did they really feel like it was the step they needed? i respect them and i don't think they've gone mainstream, but it just doesn't grab me; however, it is an effort to progress so... i'll be waitin' for their next one Tongue]

Orchid: 3/5
Morningrise: 3/5
My Arms Your Hearse: 4.5/5
Still Life: 4/5
Blackwater Park: 4/5
Deliverance: 4.5/5
Damnation: 4/5
Ghost Reveries: 4.5/5

My ratings are somewhat vague and a little unfair in some cases; for example, I love both Orchid and Morningrise, even though I only gave them a score of 3. I gave them only 3 stars because they still had much more to offer, but as far as melodic black/death albums go, they are 5's. Each Opeth album is quite an achievemet in my opinion and I enjoy all of them almost equally.

Opeth is one band I am very biased to because they were my introduction to Prog, although my parents were huge Yes, Genesis JT GG ect fans, my friend was the one who showed me Opeth, I started listening to them all the time and then he showed me Meshuggah which was a big miss for me for a long time, then he decided to take the symphonic route and Showed me YES and PoS and that is where my love of prog began. Basicly that was a winded story explaining where my higher ratings come from

Orchid was on average rated too low...seriously. Ghost Reveries was the opposite...far too high.
