Hey people,
Thought to pop in, in between al those hectic and annoying things I have to do cause I have to relax a bit and here is where I can disconnect a bit.

I was going over Guapo's discography. I only heard (and have) Black Oni and Five Suns which I like a lot.
What does everyone think of their earlier material? They seem to get low ratings here, but I don't whether to really trust those, since they  are either only one rating (usually Sean Trane, whose opinion I appreciate) or just rating without review.
Plus I see there is a sort of joint album of Guapo and Cerberus Shoal who I like as well, being an experimental band too. It's called The Ducks and Drakes of Guapo and Cerebrus Shoal  but it gets poor rating from 3 people among them Chris (Syzygy). Anyone else has comments about this specific release?

I'm off now, see/read you later.

Unfortunately I have not looked much into Guapo's back catalogue. I need to digest their two latest CD's to start off with, which have been poorly neglected over the past few weeks. But from first experiences the overall dark intense sound will grow on my very quickly. Having interesting both band I decided to do some searching about this split album. Overall from what I have found it is not only on the archives where negative reviews have been sited. Here are a few sources I have found, which on most occasion I find quite reliable.

This one is from Ground and Sky reviews, once again review by Brandon (whom I tend to agree when it comes to many facets of music).

www.progreviews.com/reviews/display.php?rev=cs-tdad

From DOA:

www.adequacy.net/review.php?reviewID=768

Even though the negative reviews I would still be interested in seeing what this sounds like; it has definately caught my interests. Also in that second review, it mention the split Cerberus Shoal did with Alvarius B which is a worth while listen. Alvarius B is the side project of Alan Bishop; bassist for the experimental group Sun City Girls.

Have fun Joren!  I'm sure you will.

Adam, thanks for the information.  I may have get some Bone from Cuneiform.  I currently have an order with Cuneiform already, so I shall have to wait!

I always feel Hugh Hopper doesn't make many wrong decisions, so I may well like it, even if it sounds nothing like Soft Machine.  I shall 1984 soon, so I'll let you know my thoughts!

Assaf, I hope everything is well for you and I hope you can visit here more regularly soon.  Good luck with everything.

Thanks for the honest comments on the band everyone.

I also haven't looked at Guapo's back catalogue since the reviews in here don't move me that much in getting them anytime soon.

Chamberry, I've added Astrid Proll on MySpace and they've messaged me, thanking me for putting one of their songs up on their page.  It seems whoever messaged me, thinks that Rock Bottom is a masterpiece of the 20th century.  He's my new best friend! LOL

They happen to love Canterbury too, so I hope that comes out in their sound.

Thanks again!

LOL I told you they had a good taste in music and good people too.

Strangely enough I left a comment at the Astrid Proll page saying that they are good representation of RIO and Krautrock and to keep up the great work and another member from the band send me a PM saying that I have a similar taste than him and to check his side project out.

http://www.myspace.com/losdienteshundidosenlagarganta

To my surprise I really liked the first track in his player wich reminds me of Neu! and his last track wich is a very soft and gentle post-rock song.

Was it him?

I've messaged them back, but MySpace was messing up, so it's sent about 5 times!  Oh well.

Yes, I'm not sure which member of the band PMed me and also left the comment, but they seem to be good people.  Anyone who likes Rock Bottom and bands like Matching Mole and Soft Machine are friends of mine.

Speaking of  Mr. Wyatt, I listened to Rock Bottom early today twice and I got to say that I'm very impressed. I love the atmosphere of it and I'll definetly listen to it again.

Oh, I thought you were very much accustomed to that album.  I'm glad you like it.  It'll grow and grow on you, I assure you that!  It's not my favourite album for no reason!

Will do. Thumbs Up

I see that almost everyone who listen to them are instant fans of the album, and who can blame it? Only two listens and I already have a idea of what's to come.

Good man!  Listen to it when you can give your whole time to listening to it, otherwise it might not affect you so quickly.

Basically shut off your mind, don't post here, don't do anything, except listen!

For a moment, I thought you were talking about a RIO-band. LOL Anyway, I'll try as many beers as possible. It's impossible to remember all those brands though... Shocked

LOL

I have never been to Ireland. I've been on the other island nearby.
Actually this is a delicious Irish Whiskey - I tried several brands, but this one is my favourite. I even won a prize at one London pub - 4 whiskey glasses (empty) with the name of the brand on the bottom, as most consistent consumer of this stuff. Ah, good old days, very fond memories. Enjoy your stay over there, and talk to locals - they will probably recommend even better things.

Definitely! That should get me to the good stuff! Tongue

TTYL everybody! Wink

The earlier material is all currently out of print. Before Daniel O'Sullivan joined their sound was much harsher, along the lines of early Boredoms or Ruins. There used to be samples on their website, but since it's been updated they seem to have vanished.

I'm hoping they re-release the early albums soon as I have an interest in the album Hirohito.

I have Hirohito, it's quite good, harsher and less "flowing" than the newest albums.

I have been meaning to post this for while now, for those interested. All this talk on Guapo has refreshed my memory on another related band.

Back while ago Chamberry asked about the band "Miasma and the Carousel of Headless Horses". For those who don't know, the band was formed around Daniel O'Sullivan (member of Guapo) alongside Dave Smith (another member of Guapo). The band is a five piece instrumental who I find too have that haunting sound which surround Guapo, but with a certain humourous twist giving the music its own unique taste.

Well the cut a long story short, when I was searching for material on both bands I ran across a live radio show they performed sometime in 2005, which is free for download I though people might be interesting this.

Miasma & the Carousel OF Headless Horses @ You of acres Hear

Enjoy and please do share your thoughts on the band!
