I think you don't know because of whom it is that we're all talking about Smegma now. Well, because of me, actually.

About a year and half ago, I stumbled upon this album called "Smell The Remains" by Smegma. I decided to give it a try just because of the band's name. I got slightly addicted to the strange music, so I ordered the "Glamour Girl 1941 + Pigface Chant" compilation and soon after I found "The Mad Excitement, The Barbaric Pulsations, The Incomparable Rhythms Of Smegma" on the internet, being sold second hand. I have been walking around with the idea of including them on PA for a long time (about a year I think), but I had always thought that nobody would agree with their inclusion. That is, until the RIO/Avant-team was founded. When I heard David's and Assaf's reactions, I was pleasantly surprised. And now a bunch of people is even discussing them in the prog lounge! who would've thought...?

PS I would like to take the opportunity to state that I would really like to add Smegma myself. Of course I will finish Zorn's discography first (and maybe write a Boredoms bio...?), but after that, Smegma are on the top of my list. So: all RIO-team members: hands off!

My brother saw them live earlier this year I believe.  Lucky man!  I wished I'd gone now.

However, I've changed my mind and now don't think they're avant-prog.  The first track and the "hidden track" (part of the final track), are avant-prog, but I don't think the rest of the album makes them avant-rock.

However they're an excellent band and a very enjoyable listen indeed.

I know how you are feeling with the drowned in music aspect. Along with the RIO muisc I have been listening to a lot underground experimental works. Some of which I might talk about here soon, as I think it would interest at least a few people on the site.

The "Flying Luttenbachers" is sounding very good at the moment, they are very noisy which at times reminds me of the more Japanese orientated Zeuhl. But definately someting for the team to have think about. If you need any sound samples you know where to ask

Assaf, that does sound interesting. I just spent about 30 mins then on their site having a ball playing with all the little flash features. It is always enjoyable when a band puts that extra little effort into their presentation, both throughout there album booklets (which by the way was stunning) and websites. I will have a read of the review sometime soon. And also to be a pest once again, could you post the myspace link in the other formate so I access their page? Thanks.

Those farmilar with Magma will notice the last track as the last track off "Üdü Wüdü". The band has done a very conmendable cover of this song, not to mention far more intense. I have only listen to the CD a few times now and their sound is very hard to narrow down into one genre, by overall a quite progressive CD. So I will leave you with a review:

This will explain things a lot better than I could at this early stage of listening to them.

Oh dear, yes I am well awear of the definition behind that word and also found it amusing that someone would decide to call a band by this name. Great band neverless and obviously with a sense of humour!

I believe it is, I shall play it later, as I've put it to one side for future play (just haven't gotten around to doing so), along with a John Coltrane album.

Yes, the UK Polar Bear.  The leader of this band is also in a punk type band... let me look them up!
