A hard question to answer. Probably either Marillion's Brave or Marbles.

Since I drive a diesel, the engine is always somewhat hearable. Therefore I don't like music with very soft passages, or music where I have to attend multi-layers (also because of concentration). Therefore my favourite car music is music with strong, well defined soloing like The Division Bell of Pink Floyd, or some metal like Metallica or Iron Maiden. Recently I'm playing both Riverside CD's quite a lot. Today I had to drive 2 hours, I played them both.
To be the one who seeks so I may find .. (Metallica)

hmmm...

let's say I had a date with death... and he (or she of course... if you're married you'd understand) awaits at the fruit stand on Highway 666 only 45 minutes away.. which album would I choose for my final drive...

..

..

Traffic - John Barleycorn must Die

though taking into account my ability to laugh in the face of death (amoung other things).... Il Balletto di Bronzo - Ys Wink
The Pedro and Micky Experience - When one no longer requires psychotropics to trip

Recently, Black Holes and Revelations has been in my car.  Lightbulb Sun, Lateralus, Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me (The Cure), have seen a lot of time in my car cd player.

Sometimes its Hermin's Hermits, but mostly I'll listen to my old cassette of Yes TFTO taped from my old LP. Whenever I go on a long trip I always bring Genesis SEBTP and TOFT.

One of my favorite albums of all time to put on if I'm driving at night through more rural areas (can't have urban light and noise about) is Traffic's Low Spark of High Heeled Boys. Many a nighttime drive through the country have I taken with this as the soundtrack. Awesome.

Wishbone Ash's Argus or Sleepwalking by Gerry Rafferty. Why is the latter album not on the archives, because it's pure prog (and quite brilliant)?

Great driving CD"s

1. Passion - Peter Gabriel (AKA music from "the last temptation of christ")
2. Tommy - The Who
3. Roxy & Elsewhere - Zappa
4. Black Noise - FM
5. Self made compilations - King Crimson Best of 69-74, Led Zeppelin Gems, Neil Young Best Of, Various Yes Compilations, Damn I love CD Burners!

I actually don't like to listen to prog rock during most driving trips because if the trip ends before the CD I feel kinda ripped off. LOL

Beside Prog that is the most that I listen in the car, when I go to the beach (Long distance all straight road in a wide highway) I like to go fast, so I usually play some good ol' BTO like Four Wheel Drive or Roll on Down the Highway, it makes get in the mood for high speed.
