Hey everyone,

I just joined the site, so I thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Josh, I'm 21(turning 22 in 3 months), and I'm a huge fan of progressive rock(among other types of music, too.) Some of my fav bands are: Genesis, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Rush, Gong, Nektar, Happy The Man, Stone Temple Pilots, Black Sabbath, Spock's Beard, Crack The Sky, Caravan, Dream Theater, Tool, Radiohead, Tangerine Dream, Porcupine Tree, The Flower Kings, Can, Silverchair, The Smashing Pumpkins, and lots more. I'm also into solo artists like: Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Steve Hackett, Tori Amos, Kate Bush, Sarah McLachlan, James Taylor, Billy Joel(his early stuff), Ozzy Osbourne, and lots more.

A little bit more about myself: I'm also a musician(I play rhythm guitar, bass, piano, and sing.) I enjoy reading(Ray Bradbury is my fav author), and watching movies(I'm a movie buff.) I'm currently employed and I'm getting ready to go back to college next year(I'm majoring in Web Design.)

Anyway, I hope to meet other progheads like myself here. Take care,

Joshua Shrive

Hey Joshua! Welcome to the forums

The fact you are a multi-instrumentalist is always a plus wherever you go, and particularly, here in the site. Way to go!

It's great to know that you're into Sci-Fi , that's pretty cool too! (I happen to admire Ray as well, and what do you think of Anthony Burgess' literary work?)

But... can you explain the Silverchair and the Phil Collins issues?  Fisrt of all, thought the grunge genre was dead along the one hit wonder "In the year 2000" (or something like that) and apart from "Both sides of the Story" and all the Disney OSTs performed by Phil (Tarzan is sooo sad ), there's nothing good to tell about him and his work...  (Ok, I admit what he did during his Genesis stage was outstanding...)

Naaah I'm just yanking your chain man  Have a great time here! Enjoy.

Peace,

Land

Hey Joshua, welcome to the forums

Nice to see there's a good cross-section of music in your list, although, I'm a tad concerned about the solo Phil Collins angle..... .

A musician and a sci-fi fan too - you'll fit right in here!

Welcome again, m'man.

Jim

Thanks for all the greetings!

Well, I'm only a fan of Phil's music up to 1989. IMO, he hasn't put out anything remotely good since "But Seriously", but in the 80s, he released some of the best 'pop' material in music history.

I haven't heard of Anthony Burgess.  Are there any recommendations you can point me to? What novel is he best known for?

Oh man, I completely forgot to include ELP and Zappa in my post! I'm a huge fan of both. Tarkus and Brain Salad Surgery are two great albums, and One Size Fits All is probably my fav Zappa.

Well, thanks again for the welcomes!  Take care,

Joshua Shrive

"A Clockwork Orange"

(My all time favorite novel and movie, directed by multi-talented Stanley Kubrick... )

Impertinent young tyke! Us older members, who can remember back to the dim and distant past when this site first began (about 8 months ago), can still enjoy a bit of fun now and again!
