Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition either!!!
Now seriously, I'm glad to see the three of us agree here, but one thing is not expecting a team to win and another thing is a team not having any chances to win at all.
For good or for bad, the "expected one" doesn't always win.
Paz!

Ok... so now yoùr best team of the World Cup and the whole world are out... sorry my friend...
let me remind you the last 3 important Arg - Mex matches:
1. Copa America ... Mexico won 1 -0 with a freekick goal, and actually it was a well deserved victory
2. Confederations Cup: yes, Argentina won in penalty kicks, but before Mexico were winning 1- 0 and then lucky Figueroa found the ball in the goal zone... again Mexico play a bit better
3. This Germany World Cup 2006, you have to accept it man... Maxi saved you... a brilliant goal , but in the match Argentina was clearly pwned

I think another reason Brazil did so badly was because before the game they were listening to Pagode music. They looked too relaxed and didn´t seem to be that serious.

Nobody for Italy?
I like them a lot, i know the referee helped them against Australia, and i also know that Ukraine wasn`t strong enough to hold them... but now against that host Germany, Italy must prove and show us how big are they, they have brilliant players, but as you know they`ll have always their "catenaccio" and defensive style, i really hope Italy wins , and then... Zizou is a god... but anyway i`d like to see Portugal doing it`s best and why not beating France

Well, my favourite team, my home country, England are out, but they didn't deserve to get any further anyway. My second fave team, Sweden, are also out, and they didn't deserve to go any further either! But, my third fave team, Germany, are still in, and I believe they can win the cup now. And they deserve to as well. They always get bad press, and they are supposed to have a weak team. (And last world cup they had a weak team too, so weak it got to the final!)
And at least the team I dislike the most are out, Brazil! Yes, thank god they have gone. Unfortunately, my second most disliked team, France, are still in. I think now it will be a Germany - France final. And hopefully the Germans can win it.

Nothing seem like real in this World Cup..... Argentina, England and BRAZIL![Shocked](https://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley3.gif) are out......I feel sorry for the Brazilians but sooner or later they had to be out, I wanted that also.....Now, I want France to win the cup and the f**k*n Germans to be eliminated because they didn't deserve to be where they are at the moment, Argentina deserved more than them IMO.....Now we got to wait 4 f**k*N YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, don't misunderstanfd me Peruvians have a lot of simpathy for Argentina, ask to an old enough Argentinean which country was the only one that supported them when the Malvinas War and they will say that Perú.
But don't ask an Argentinean (Specially if Porteño) not to be arrogant, that's in their blood.
When Maradona made the goal with the hand they called it "The hand of God" but when a Brazilian did the same against them and the Peruvian referee didn't noticed it they asked for permanent banning of the referee and called it "The hand of Satan".

How many times do I have to say this?
ROONEY COULDN'T SEE WHERE HE WAS PUTTING HIS FOOT. HIS BACK WAS TURNED. THE REFEREE SAW THIS AND GAVE A FREE KICK.
At this point he wasn't reaching for his cards, but after the Portugese playrs surrounded him, he saw Rooney give a very small shove to Ronaldo, and suddenly decided it was enough for a red card.
And the reaction from the Argentinians on this board to England going out shows how utterley retarded it was to put an Argentine in charge of an England match. |
John Motson referred to the ref as an 'Argentine' time after time after time. He is 'Argentinian'. And the only retard I saw on TV was Shearer saying that Rooney should stick one on Ronaldo the next time they meet - as if violence solves anything - and this from a 'respected' former internationalist!! Pathetic.

Crimson Thing:
I´m sorry, but I did not insult to you .
(And... that's exactly the way that your posts seemed to be written... )
The only thing that I did was (as many another people) to take part of jokes and passionate discussions about the Worldcup.
(Now, without Argentina, England & Brasil !!!!)
I would never offend anybody, anyway (though your last response was not too nice )
We must have more sense of humor.
We share in PA our musical tastes, and it is a place to meet friends and to spendit well, beyond that we coincide or not, or of that we do jokes (about music or not).
I'm sorry about this misunderstanding.
And to all the prog-heads: excuse me if someone more felt offended (at this topic or some other one).![Embarrassed](https://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif)
And thanks to all those that answered nicely my posts when I was (a bit?...) passionated (but never aggressive! ) for the defeat of Argentina !!!...
P.S.: And again: I'm sorry, my english is not enough good... but my convictions and my love for the whole prog are!!!.
|
It's OK, I wasn't insulted by your comments - even though I wasn't quite sure whether your little shooting smiley was aimed at me or Maradona, who I had mentioned & insulted......either way I'm cool with what you said ![Big smile](https://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif) .........and I had no intention of insulting you either, so I'm sorry if my comments looked bad - no insult intended.........Argentina are one of our traditional footie rivals - along with Germany, France, Italy, Brazil, Scotland - well, everyone, actually ![Embarrassed](https://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif) - so I hope you will forgive us a little bit of Schadenfreude when one of them loses.. ![Wink](https://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif) ....

I'm sorry I have been away for a bit, but after Portugal won yesterday I started drinking and drinking and drinking and well...kind of passed out. Hooray for the Portuguese! And hooray for France too!! It's unexpected that both of these teams would win, since international consensus was that England and Brazil were the better teams, or at the very least, the more popular teams. I can hardly wait for Portugal to play France on Wednesday!! I was supposed to return to work on the 5th (the 3rd and 4th being holidays for us yanks), but I am suddenly feeling a bit feverish.
Sorry to all my English and Brazilian PA mates. I shall pour myself another drink and toast all of you. But, the rest of the bottle will be consumed in honor of Portugal and France!! ![LOL](https://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif)

We Jocks, as you put it, are not criticising, we're laughing at the worlds worst under acheivers. As usual, you lot think you have a god given right to win everything, unfortunately you need a decent team to do that with.
Rooney was not unlucky to be sent off, he deserved it for stamping on the poor guys nuts. Rooney the looney he should be called. Becks is done, but Eriksson was scared sh*tless to drop him, for fear of upsetting his wife who threatened to sing(!!) to him.
As for only one tennis player, at least he is still in a tournament, probably get stuffed in the next round, but where's middle class t**t Henman?
Scotland will never win anything on the football front, at least we are able to be realistic about our team, time you sourtherners need to get a grip on reality too.
Finally, what kind of supporter causes a riot in their own country over a game of footie. Quick give them back their dummy, and Rooney's too.
Long live penalty shootouts. |
I don't think we have the god given right to win anything and nor does anyone else but England were the bookies pre-tournament favorites along with Brazil. Every nation in the world cup should believe they are there to win it, otherwise whats the point? English supporters are no different to any others, this is true of any other sport as well. Which brings me to Tennis, if Andy Murray goes into his next game with your "realistic" approach then like any self fulling prophecy he will lose. Tennis is a middle class game and Murray's father is the Director of Scottish Tennis, yeah that sets Murray apart. One thing England should never do is go into competitions believing we will lose. Unfortunately I think thats exactly what our footballers (cricketers, Tennis players, Golfers, etc) do most of the time, if you think you will lose on penaties you normally will. As for Portugal being a good side, hehehe thats just funny, they wasn't interested in attacking in with an extra man. The two most positive sides in the semi-finals are France and Germany, IMO.
