I know I am amazed as well...and also very happy about it. I remember a while back, maybe a year ago now there was somebody who had just been to Australian and they started a thread hear about how Australia was a black hole to buy Prog Music The Avant-garde and Ambient/electronic (which happens to be Kraut rock/progressive electronic) have only rescently been added over the last six months. Which shows there must have been a demand for those types of CD's. I can literally spend hours in that store, I think you must visit us sometime. The Gothic and Metal sections are really good as well. So is there anything there that you would recommend? |

They sounded English to me! Both albums, as far as I can hear, have vocals in English.
The lyrics are something like: Where is Mister Green Where is Mister Grey Where is Mister Grey! I am sure they're in English. Let me do a Google search. Nothing found of worth... oh well. I've just read a review and it says that Mister Green is the nextdoor neighbour at a boisterous party and he's unhappy about the noise apparently... Edited by Geck0 - July 02 2006 at 02:04 |

I must be me hallucinating then (I would not put it past me ), I did a little google search as well trying to find some lyrics and so far has been quite unsuccessful. I guess the next step is to listen to the album and write everything down. |

In Skymind in the third song there is a line that says "Sets it in motion to dust". The female vocalist who sings it has such a French accent that the first time I heard it I was sure it was in French and it said C'est est une blah blah blah blah....

When I get back tonight I'll copy some of Skymind's lyrics. Those in Mr. Green are incomprehensible to me.

There's something about a Crazy Juggler... but it sounds like Crazy Jongleurs... I'm not sure which it should be!
Then there is the Pretty Girls, Used Cars, Magazines... part also. I think there is an Ozzy-esque: Bark to the moon Edited by Geck0 - July 02 2006 at 02:36 |

Now that I have had a descent listen to OOIOO - gold and green, I thought I would give everybody an update on what I think of this album and the band as a whole.
First things first... I am qutie impressed by this album. I picked it up with the mention of some of the guys from The Boredoms being present. The overall sound is somewhat different from the Boredoms, a lot less frantic, but can still hear the influences. I find the album takes huge influences from the Psychedelic scene. So in turn this is a lot easier album to listen to than The Boredoms material. I know this might sound strange but I find this album quite soothing. To begin with the songs did seem quite simple, due to their more digestable manorisms, but the more you listen to this album you start to see the complexity hidden beneath the surface layer. I really like the vocals which I think are female. Overall just a really good album. I would think these guys should be considered to be on this site... I'm not say straight out they are prog, but I think I will have to give them a more indepth listen on the next little while to make my decision fully. But they are definately a band to have a think about and to discuss with a wider audience. Also I don't know if this is going to interest all the people who read and participate in this thread but there is some amazing artwork through out the booklet. I took some pictures the other day so people could see. I will post the links here and hopefully somebody gets some statisfaction out of these. Sorry about the quality of the pictures. http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i47/0oblackvelveto0/P1010359.jpg http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i47/0oblackvelveto0/P1010358.jpg http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i47/0oblackvelveto0/P1010357.jpg http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i47/0oblackvelveto0/P1010355.jpg http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i47/0oblackvelveto0/P1010354.jpg enjoy, also RP if you have anything you want to add about the band feel free to do so, as my description didn't turn out as good as I would have liked . |

That is some beautiful artwork in that booklet.
I actually think your description is good and I understand what you mean by the album being soothing and understanding the complexity hidden. I've some albums like that as well.
As soon as I can afford some cd buying and after my move to the US next month, I will be looking for these guys as well as for other Japanese Avantgarde bands.

I was thinking you would enjoy the artwork after your comments on the Cerberus Shoal website. Our tastes in art seem to be something else we have in common
Tell me what you think of the OOIOO album Well I think the decision is going to come down to: OOIOO - Feather Float Boredoms - Vision Creation Newsun (was read up on some reviews on rateyourmusic.com and this has been rated one of there best). I don't know if anybody is interested in this, I found it on ebay. Quite expensive, but it is not going to be much use to me as I have neither paypal or credit card http://cgi.ebay.com.au/KNEAD-this-melting-happiness-LP-keiji-haino_W0QQitemZ4882623127QQihZ003QQcategoryZ91486QQssPageNameZWD2VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem |

I suggest those two Boredoms albums - if you're interested in more
OOIOO and Boredoms. If that's not what you're looking for, you might
not be satisfied. But if that's the sound you want, those two albums
are the pinnacle of it. I think I like Super Are more out of it and
Vision Creation Newsun, but I've listened to it more often so I'm more
familiar with it.

I'm definately interested in the sound of those to bands, especially The Boredoms. I would get both those Boredoms albums you suggested but unforunately Vision Creation Newsun is the only one is stock at the moment... hopefully Super Are is stocked sometime soon as I will definately want to pick it up. Oh also I was just wondering, are the vocals in those two albums similar to Pop Tatari? I hope so as I love those vocals so much |

Haha, their sound as a whole is definitely MUCH different from Pop
Tatari. Think along the lines of Gold & Green by OOIOO, it's in the
same vein, but with a more droning, psychadelic, journey setting. Both
SA and VCN are those kinds of albums that are really just one song,
despite having tracks. They blend together and are rather hypnotic. I'm
sure VCN will be just as satisfying, it's just like I said, I haven't
listened to it as often as SA so I haven't been able to give it as much
of a chance. I'm sure you'll enjoy your purchase.

I was kind of excepting it to be totally different. As the two CD's I have by them Pop Tatari and Seadrum/House of Sun (my friend picked it up for me the other day) were at totally different spectrums of the Avant-garde sound. Haha I'm thinking I might be one of the people that enjoy those vocals on Pop Tatari, I get many as strange looks from people when they walk past my room
Just wondering whether you could recommend any other Japanese bands which have similar sound to these two bands. As I want to keep expanding my knowledge on the Japanese Avant/Zeuhl scene. I'm really only quite new to it. |

Similar to OOIOO and Boredoms? They definitely are their own sound,
however I've heard some works by Acid Mother's Temple that have been
comparable. I'll try and think of others like that. I too am relatively
new to the Japanese Avant/Zeuhl scene, but I am absolutely in love with
it.
Check out John Zorn's label at this website http://www.tzadik.com/ and click the bar that says "New Japan" along the top. Voila, welcome to the world of avant-garde Japan. You will find many artists worth listening to here! You can hear samples by typing in the artist or album names into http://www.amazon.com or http://www.barnesandnoble.com |

I will check out John Zorn's label... I have breifly looked over the site a few times but not extensively. My knowledge might be little better now so hopefully I can make some links between bands.
I love Acid Mother's Temple. Have two of there albums and love them to death. Well I think we have something in common them, I love it as well. I have only been listening to it for about a month now and it was a little like love at first site. One second I will just find a link: http://www.forcedexposure.com/labels/psf.japan.html I don't know if you have looked at this page but it is Keiji haino's Label. I'm sure there would be plenty of worth while bands on the label. It is just going to take sometime to shift through all the bands. |

Wow, yes, fantastic find! A lot of work to shift through is right, but
that always ends with the best results. Excited to browse this page you
posted. Glad we share many similar tastes. Let me know how the Boredoms
CD treats your fancy.

That link is an overdose risk, I can't focus due to the amount of releases there, plus I don't know it all.
Thanks for the link, Adam.

I got down to the third thing on the list and I already want to try one of them out. Fush*tsusha "Keiji Haino's ultimate rock unit" how are we not to get excited. I will tell everybody what I think of the Boredoms CD when I get it. Just wondering Assaf, are Pop Tatari and Seadrum/House of Sun the only ones you have heard?
