Which of these "hair and eye-liner" bands is/was your favourite ?
I remember listening to Motley Crue "Shout at the Devil" a lot when I was younger, but now when I look back my vote would go to Cindarella, Tom Keifer could write some good bluesy type rockers and had a great voice too.

I saw Cinderella back in the 80's during their Long Cold Winter tour and they were great(Winger and Bulletboys opened)

But my wife is a huge Crue fan and we saw them a couple of times back in the day and just saw them a couple of months ago here in Baltimore on their Carnival of Sins tour and they still kicked ass.

The Crue gets my pick.

Cinderella, by far. They are, really, the only band there with any genuine substance. I like all these acts and have albums by them all, but imo, Cinderella are in another class and their choice to be lumped in with 'hair metal' brought their standing down hugely. No other band of the era managed a ballad as classy or powerful as 'Don't Know What You've Got 'Til It's Gone', or songs as bluesy as 'Long Cold Winter' or rockers as well crafted as 'Gypsy Road'. Motley Crue were a good hard rock act when they started but their ballads are often odious. Poison are the opposite- some of their ballads are enjoyable and moving like 'Something To Believe In' and 'Stand' yet their rock songs don't really work. And really, despite hype to the contrary, Ratt were never more than a 2nd division metal act imo, however good 'Out Of The Cellar' was, most of their songs fly past my ears and are very formulaic.

Wow! I never would have guessed.

I had a friend that lived accross the hall from me. He was heavily into these bands. He was forever cranking it up, and tryng to get me into it. Thanks to him, I got more into Marillion.

Cinderella although I liked the crew (Dr Feelgood played allot in my rebel days)! Poisen had some great ballads that are complete classics... But for reasons mentioned above Cinderella has to win the prize.

Ratt: Don't care much for them.
Cinderella: I only had Long Cold Winter and loved it!
Poison: I kinda enjoyed Unskinny Bop and Every Rose Has its Thorns ... but not for very long, and today I find them to be quite bland and the cheesiest of all hair bands.
Mötley Crüe: They get my vote - I love their early albums, and Dr. Feelgood was simply awesome!

Well, my vote goes for Cinderella; I've always enjoyed their music. And again, in my humble opinion, the music of Cinderella is far more complex than any of the bands from the list. LOL

Even though back then I prefered Motley Crue, I now realize that Cinderella were by far the most interesting of the four musically.

Ah, you don't know about Micky's collection of musical skeletons in the closet, then?LOL

OK, I've never been a big fan of hair bands, but some time ago (for mostly personal reasons) I used to listen to quite a bit of Motley Crue. Not really my favourite genre of music, but some of their songs were rather fun to listen to - so I voted for them.

Cinderella were unfortunate to be lumped in the 'hair metal' brigade. Actually, their music is not metal in the first place, and had they been signed a few years later they would have been as well regarded as the very similar Black Crowes/Thunder blues rock revival that took place.

I heard some Cinderella on the radio the other day and didn't realise... I thought I was listening to AC/DC...

I guess with closer listens they don't sound anything like them.  They did do one really nice bluesy track though, unlike AC/DC.
