SMOKE and The Kingdom Of Curved - the first one and the last one!!! Smoke has awesome opening track - atmospheric gothic NIGHT(ÍÎ×Ü).The last one is a bit poppish and ordinary, but some tracks showing Shklyarsky's masterity as a composer and soundmaker.I wonder how would you like his voice!!!

You catch me after 5 weeks of prolonged university coursework and
examination marking, so forgive me if I'm still in pendant precision
mode.
The thread says Russia not USSR. Yes I know Horizont have been
listed here for some time and it is clear not everybody else was
talking lesser known bands. The liner notes for the Gunesh's album 45 degrees in a shadows , states: 'jazz rock Turkmanistan group'

I guess Shafi and Gunesh were unique in that - although you are hit by a number of tunes, that you first may label Indo Jazz Fusion but realised with time they are some distance from the likes of Shakti. I'm sure there is Mongolian throat music as well. One tune by Gunesh is inspired by Vietnamese music - and we had to wait at least 15 years before French-Vietnamese guitarist Nguyen Le crossed jazz rock fusion with Vietnamese folk music

Just listened to AZAZELLO's "The Wings" - early FATES WARNING meets keyboardist!!! Nice stuff, but a bit OVER arranged...they should concentrate on writing SONGS rather on making insane DT-like jams...IMHO,though

As far as I can remember, their vocalist really put me off. Instrumental parts are very good, though. So I kinda disagree with above suggestion. These guys could do without songs.

Abandon all your hopes. Faust is in the same style. I mean - music in all instrumental parts is great, but when he starts singing - it sounds like from completely different band/style/genre. I wonder if it's only me or someone else also thinks that music and lyrics/vocal lines do not go together. The band is using lyrics by great Russian poet of so called "Silver Age" era (beginning of 20th century), and lyrics as poetry are great on their own, but IMO it does not suit music at all. This is one of the rare cases when you put two "great" together and get "nothing great" as the result.

Extrovert are already under discussion by the PMT.
I'll also make it my duty to inform Mike about the latter two bands for addition.
