I recently borrowed 10,000 days from a friend. I would say 3 stars. Oh sure, they play 11 minute songs, but I feel as though they have the same mood and emotion on EVERY SINGLE SONG.Am I the only one that thinks this? Almost all tool songs I've heard including most of the ones on their lastest album give off the same emotion, which is kind of a dark slightly angry feeling. It's like, when I listen to a 10 or 11 minute song by Genesis or Jethro tull or Dream Theater or Pain of Salvation, the music changes during the song. The mood often changes, there are different melodies, but while listening to 10,000 days, I noticed in I think one of their seven minute songs (not sure which) that it was in the say key the whole way through. They're proggy for a popular Rock band today, but I would have to say they are only prog related.

I agree there. Good band but some of their songs plod along with nothing seeming to happen or develop.

Well, I tend to disagree... you have to 'get into' the general Tool-sound and then you might find the changes are not the obvious ones, but more subtle...
And yes there are pieces that somehow are alsmost 'rhytmic meditative', if you like that listen to Lateralus aswell, otherwise you maybe best try Aenema....

I dont understand the disapointment of some people when it comes to 10,000 days... for me this is Tools masterpiece!!! Even if Lateralus was their masterpiece as most say...10,000 days is not a step back...taking steps back is against Tool´s philosophy... And that undercover Wings song??? THE BEST THING THEY HAVE EVER CREATED!!!

I like Tool alot; I was a huge fan of "Undertow" and "Aenima". Ive only heard a few tracks off the new album; however I tend to agree that their schtick is getting a little old. It seems they have lost alot of steam and are now rehashing ideas from their earlier albums.

Because of the forums, and friends of mine, I have tried several times to appreciate Tool. It just doesn't work for me. I can see prog elements, but it's mostly modern metal. It just doesn't agree with me. Not that I can't handle heavy music, but I just don't find this enjoyable. I agree with MajesterX, when he talks about the mood never changing. It's a contant onslaught. I also don't understand why fans get so hurt when someone like me doesn't like it. Go and bang your heads, and have fun with it. Just don't expect me to hail them as the prog Gods you see them as.

I own 10,000 Days and Lateralus and I definently Think Lateralus is the better album although 10,000 Days does have the 3D Booklet!!!

Hold on, wait a second. The secret song is not the best thing the've created... It's the booklet of the album. If you though the music was a masterpiece, wait 'till you figure out how to read the booklet (ok, its not the best thing, but its still worth every cent)

When i first heard their latest album i thought it was to similar to lateralus, but it a great album. They should made lateralus a double album and this album would of fit perfect they did progress much with this album. Tool is one of the best progmetal or I would say the best prog metal band this days. I like Opeth a lot, but I think on their last album sounds too much like Porcupine Tree and Tool, which is why Tool is better in mine opinion that Opeth.
If you're into Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, King Crimson, Rush, I think you would love TOOL.

I don't think so, as I am a fan of all the bands listed, except Tool.

10,000 days has 3 great songs 2 good songs and a whole lot of filler
I skip over wings for marie pt I & II. Yeah it's cool how they
layered the three songs but overall I find the song uneventful.

I hear that Tool fill up their albums with fillers, yet I hear none, and I have all the albums, mind you. My conclusion is that you peeps be without patience.

I adore them.
I have all their albums including Salival; I observed their progression from one CD to another; I must admit their best was "Lateralus" - my favoritest prog-metal album ever(though I'm not stuck on Prog-Metal much)."10,000 Days" isn't a step back - TOOL has become more psychedelic and introvertive. They're just unpredictable, and that's why I like them. They're The Maters of The Riff - most of their songs built on just several notes, but these are the best notes I ever heard!!!
Who says "A" sounds exactly like "B"?They just have their own style and sound, like U2 or Rolling Stones, who are well-known for ages for their riffs and guitars...
You can't even clone TOOL - they'll go further anyway.
Dare I say - TOOL is KC of our days...but KC with huge MTV broadcasting("Oh boy!10-min video! We could stuck other three ones instead of this Parabola!!!" ) and young angry fans who don't care whether they prog or not.
TOOL is unique!!!
