Great game. The Messi goal should have stood.
Now is the time for Messi and Tevez to take over...but who knows?

Wow-great performance by the Mexicans so far.

Heinze should have been sent off for that foul-how the referee thought Ayala was going to cover the Mexican's surge towards goal is anyone's guess.
Great pressing,high-tempo game from the Mexicans.I can tello you that Borgetti never played that well for Bolton last season.

How long before Messi is introduced?

The Germany-Argentina match will be really exciting, two excellent teams! But first Argentina has to win Mexico though. Wink

Germany - great game today. Sweden didn't have any scoring chances apart from the penalty, which was a mistake from the ref. Germany probably need to score more goals though if they want to win their next match.

Disagree, the Swedes were very lucky to get the penalty! And they were really bad today.Ouch

You never know! Wink South Korea beat Italy and Spain last world cup as hosts and the Germans are much better than the South Koreans were with Ballack, Frings, Klose, Podolski, Lahm, and co.

The home team always get a bit of help with regards to the schedule.........it certainly happened with us in 1966......and with SK & Japan last time........it's not necessarily a bad thing.......one always hopes the hosts at least make the quarters......and lo! they invariably do........

An England reminiscence........in the (I think) late 70s or early 80s there was a black day when, due to the vagaries of longitude, representative England teams lost simultaneously at footie, cricket & rugby......and yet we still thought we were world beaters at all three..........given that we've just been thrashed by the Aussies at rugby (and our coach, Andy Robinson still thinks we can defend the World Cup next year, Bless!).......we're being taken apart by a Murali-less Sri Lanka at one day cricket as I write (and our coach, Duncan Fletcher, still thinks we have a chance at the Cricket World Cup next year, Bless!)........and our footballers haven't a f+++ clue how to play anything other than kick & rush - which even I grew out of at the age of 12 - (and our coach, Sven Gollum Ericksson, still thinks........)

The annoying thing is that we can play well, if sufficient intelligent thought is put in. We played fantastic rugby up to, & for a bit of, the 2003 WC. We played well enough subsequently to stagger over the finishing line & (just about) deserved to win.......we played really tough & hardnosed cricket to beat the Aussies in the last Ashes series......but haven't come close since.......

We England supporters lack a sense of proportion. We can't accept we're good - but not good enough - at any time. Let alone can we ever accept that we're mediocre.........which is where our footie team is. We have no thinking players (let alone a thinking coach). Where's the English Ballack? Ronaldinho? Riquelme? or even Larsson? Our guys can't even give a coherent interview in English - most of the other teams have players who can do so in several languages.......one of the most telling moments in the past few days was when I saw consecutive press conferences from Ericksson & Lagerback (the Swedish coach).......and Lagerback spoke by far the better English.........

Wow, Erik. I can't imagine how much you must hate Germans to give such an opinion about (maybe) the strongest performance of any team in this world cup.

Klose the best player of this world cup? Probably.

How easy the Germans can get it?

Well, a few examples:

- The weakest poule and no early afternoon hot sun games Angry
- A mediocre opponent in the second round with a blundering defence Stern Smile
- After half an hour the Swedish were eliminated to 10 men (red cart) Thumbs Down
- Sweden missed a penalty Unhappy
- The Swedish top forward players from Juventus (Ibrahimovic) and Barcelona
(Larsson) played like tired old men Pinch

The real tests will be games against Argentina and (if they remain so lucky) Italy and in the final against Brasil. But, I repeat, I will eat my shoes if the Germans are able to defeat Argentina, I cannot imagine Wacko ...

Wow, is this what we're up against in the quarter finals?

Germany is playing better than Brazil! They are owning Sweden badly.

Atkingani said : Well, well, well... same old song! Never heard that Brasil finance the World Cup (we're not that rich!), but I know the only Cup that was really paid for: 1978!

The Dutch players from that time don't talk about that match much, but they all say that is was very grim and hostile out there and that it was a good thing they lost !!!!

On Brasil, they have not been tested yet, so we will see how good they are. About teams, Argentina for me has the best team.

^^Although Dutch player Robben seemed more impressed with the Argentinian support during the last group game between the two countries. Well judging by his reaction on TV anyway.

Predictions; Teams on their way home today are Sweden and Mexico, yeah, I know, quite safe predictions ah?LOL

In the game against Croatia, the number of Croatians doubled the number of Brazilians in the stadium. But maybe Iván was talking about fans coming from outside Europe, which is probably correct. Smile

Brazilian team is really very popular in Africa and parts of Asia but with the exception of Japan and some oil production countries they count few for the cash of FIFA and the big sponsors. In Spanish America, which represents good incomes for FIFA/sponsors, Argentina is much more popular.

No Guigo, in Perú people and press are hardcore fans of Brazil, they mention 1,000 times a day that Brazil is the best team in the world and people goes to the streets to celebrate each time Brazil wins, something that doesn't happen with Argentina.

Casually I was in Colombia for the last World Cup and happened the same thing also saw on TV the people dancing in the streets of Venezuela when Brazil was champion.

In Europe, I think they will support Brazil or Argentina if we may defeat a historical continental adversaryl. Smile

Brazil takes more tourists to the games than any other country Guigo and I honestly imagine Germans and British happier if Brazil and not Italy or France are champions.
