Well.. I don't think I would classify it as a weak album but..
Relayer - GOD, never could get into the other two songs
As for weak albums, pretty much everything I've heard by
The Flower Kings
Spocks Beard
The Tangent
one or two good songs on each

PINK FLOYD - THE FINAL CUT has 2 good tracks, "Hero's Return" and "Not Now John". The rest of the album is crap.

Heart of the Sunrise | Agree on the album, but I'd rate Heart of the Sunrise and Roundabout as the excellent tracks. Most of the rest is just filler or rubbish. |
I totally disagree with you. For me the album is an essential in prog music and a masterpiece, IMO BETTER than Close To The Edge. Where do you see (or hear) that filler? Cans And Brahms? Beautiful melody with participation of symphonic orchestra. We Have Heaven - OK, I agree if someone doesn't like it, although I think it's a good song. South Side Of The Sky - great riff, dynamic, melody - it has everything for me... Five Percent For Nothing - yes, this is a filler. Long Distance also has beatiful melodies and passages with a smooth transition to The Fish, which I always considered as a masterpiece. Mood For A Day - another masterpiece. Heart Of The Sunrise - OK, you like it, so I pass it over. Summing up, Fragile IS a masterpiece . That's my opinion, I know everyone can disagre with it, but I wanted to give some arguments for Fragile and "defend" this album, because I really think it deserves a place in the top 10 best albums of prog!
Sorry for off topic. |
A masterpiece with two tracks that you skip and one you find ok? You don't seem to fond of the album either.

It's probably due to a difference in that little thing called opinion. And I don't think the album is weak, I said Southside of The Sky and Heart of the Sunrise are amazing. That's 19mins of a 40 min album thats amazing. Hardly calling it weak just not an essential album.

"Out of Water" by Peter Hammill (his weakest solo album by far) -- "A
Way Out" the last track on the album is outstanding -- the rest is...

It's not prog, but Zeppelin's 'Presence' comes to mind. "Achilles Last Stand" and "For Your Life" rank among Zep's finest achievements. They rest of the album is quite a let down.

That's interesting -as "Out of Water" was the last Hammill album I bought and I found it disappointing too - I was kind of going off prog at the time anyway (it seemed that other bands I liked we're either doing nothing much (eg King Crimson), or were also releasing weak albums (e.g. Rush, Jethro Tull), and I was branching out into other genres.
Still, if you (and others) think that Ph improved after that, then maybe I'll start investing in his later output....

The Final Cut - The final cut is ok, the rest...
Tormato - only first track and the whale thing (funny and kitsch)
Le Orme's album with Amico di Ieri (the one after ontrappunti) - only this song.

Bach, Ma, Bros, Déia, Dante.

But these tracks on Fragile (Five Percent... and We Have Heaven) last about 3 minutes or something. And the rest is masterpiece, maybe you misunderstood me with Heart Of The Sunrise (it's probably the best on that album). BTW, the same is with Selling England. Two quite weak, but short tracks: I know what I Like and More Fool Me, but the rest is amazing and generally the album deserves to be called as essential. But I understand of course if you have different opinion.

Fletcher Memorial Home? The only two I can think of at the moment are: Pink Floyd - Meddle: Echoes and One of These Days. Camel - I Can See Your House from Here: Ice. IMO, of course.
