<< I like it I think its one of the best modern Marillion CD`s (and some of the others are overrrated coughmarblescough)there must be something wrong with me >>
I like both Holidays In Eden and Marbles; however, to compare Holidays with Marbles is apples and oranges. Holidays isn't very progressive, and because of the record execs, it was a step back from Seasons End. It took the brilliance of Brave to get them back to a certain degree of respectability. You talk with the band and they'll tell you that Holidays was more fluff and lightweight for their tastes (and keep in mind I like the disc).
Now, Marbles just raised the bar, if anything. The sound of that disc (or those discs...depending on what you have) is light years ahead of what they've done...and what a lot of bands have done. Brave is still my favorite; but, I applaud Marillion for taking chances. It all started with Anoraknophobia, and Marbles just knocked it out of the park. I'm just hoping they keep it going.
As for the subject at hand:
Rush: Test For Echo - "Half The World" and "Driven"
Spock's Beard: Feel Euphoria - "East Of Eden, West Of Memphis", "Shining Star", "Ghosts Of Autumn"
Marillion.com - "Interior LuLu", "Go!"

I'm thinking of:
Rick Wakeman's "Fields of Green": A bunch of weak tracks but it has an excellent cover of Starship Trooper.
Rick Wakeman's "Cost of Living": again, lots of weak tracks with the classical masterpiece of Gone but not Forgotten
I'm gonna hide after saying this one:
Steve Hackett's "Voyage of the Acoltye" is just bad. Shadow of the Hierophant is a song that if done by Genesis, it would be my top 5 of them. Everything is great and the outro is magnificent!! |
WHAT???????????????? Voyage of the Acolyte is a masterpiece. Oh my God.

Shylock - Ile De Fievre. The titletrack is amazing.. Completely breathtaking. The rest is boring and experimental noodling.

Thick as a Brick by the Tull.
Apart from the title track, it's pretty useless.

Genesis: Invisible Touch...
I always thought Domino (In the Glow of the Night) and The Brazilian were great tracks. The rest of it can go jump in a trash barrel.

^ In the same vein, I always liked Home by the sea and Second home by the sea from Genesis - Genesis but the rest is weaker.

Spock's Beard- V 1. At the End of the Day 2. The Great Nothing.
This is essentially half the album, to I would still give the album like 4/5 stars overall. The other songs are not really bad, just they are not to my liking. Goodbye to yesterday is a crappy ballad, Neal Morse seems to love making at least one on each album, Revalation I never liked, all on a sunday is not really prog at all, and thoughts pt. 2....wait...that is a great song....well 3 are great then...whoops

I can strangle a canary in a tin can and it would be really original, but that wouldn't save it from sounding like utter sh*t.

Well, if I'm keeping it down to 1-2 strong tracks, a lot of albums would be ruled out, but here is what I can think of:
Camel - Breathless - Echoes and The Sleeper
- I Can See Your House from Here - Ice is really the only strong one, but Wait is also pretty decent
Dali's Dilemma - Manifesto for Futurism - Within a Stare, Miracles in Yesteryear
