Probably Pain of Salvation, but I really liked the samples of Riverside I've heard.

Out of these, Tool... I like them a tiny bit more than PoS, but it's a very close call

Ok so here's the thing ... Dream Theater will never be my first favourite band .. I like them lots but they lack something ? I think its a genre thing .. so many very good Bands in the prog metal field but no great ones (its the chunk and balls attitude that kills it, and also I don`t feel it has the shelf life that progressive rock has) probably the best prog metal band is Shadow Gallery ,so the way the question was asked ... after Dream Theater ? I didn`t vote

Ok I'm a great DT fan, I have almost all of their albums and I love their style and all their material except Octavarium, which I consider is a rubbish album... but that isn't the point. My point is that I admit DT is probaly the best band of the prog metal scene but my favorite band is Shadow Gallery... So I give my vote to them Anyway Long live DT!!!! |

Out of the bands listed there (and prog metal in general), POS. Out of all bands, Genesis.

Riverside for me. I saw them live @ Arrow Rock Festival last weekend. They were superb, as good as on cd. Symphony X comes close after Riverside!!!

Definitely Pain Of Salvation!
They're heavy and melodic, the music is intense and fragile, and above all: these guys make really original albums!!
