Oh, my, god.
What an incredible experience... The entire weekend was just freakin'
awesome. We arrived Thursday-evening, and paid a short visit to the
pre-party, which featured Wishbone Ash and a couple of other bands. Not
really our cup of tea, so we decided to head back to the tent and enjoy
a cold beer. Or two.
The next day we visited the market, and enjoyed some music while
enjoying the incredible weather. Ted Nugent, Uriah Heep... Still not
the bands which we came for, but nice nonetheless. Our first real
concert was Whitesnake. It seemed they couldn't really get the crowd
going, but they had a nice set-list, which included many classics, and
featured 'Adje' v/d Berg on guitar on 'Here I go again'.
Later on in the evening Status Quo blew us away. What an awesome band.
Of course we all know their classics, but what a performance! Something
I really have to get in to!
When Deep Purple started at 22:30, we were about 30 metres from the
stage. And what a show. Great, but short solo's, they played every
classic, and the crowd was really digging the stuff they did for as far
as I could see it. Too bad Ian Gillan wasn't at his best. I haven't
heard any DP live-recordings from the last couple of years, but if this
is his best shape, I really suggest he retires. There almost wasn't a
single high note he hit.... But what a way to start the weekend, and
the best was yet to come.
Tomorrow I will post a short review of the 2nd day, I'm gonna sleep
now, listening to the Roger Waters bootleg of the Arrow Rock Festival
