Well I'm hoping for an England victory today but after seeing well Ecuador played against Poland I now know England must not underestimate the smaller South American nations. Plus England have only ever won 4 of the opening games in all tournaments. ![Confused](smileys/smiley5.gif) So I'm going to go for a draw....

In The Seventies I loved to watch the German 'Sportschau' ( WDR1,18.10), Schalke 04 became my favorite team ("ich bin ein Schalke 04 Schlachtenbumler") because of Klaus Fischer (famous 'bicycle kick'), the Cremer brothers, Rolf Russmann, ... great days !
Nowadays I cannot enjoy the German team, what a poor technical side, so defensive but they have a superb mentality and they can score any moment ... ![Cry](https://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley19.gif) .. and they have Michael Ballack, Sebastian Schweinsteiger and Klaus Podolsky, the only German players I like to see.

My predictions:
England 3 Paraguay 0 (Crouch,Gerrard & Terry)
Sweden 2 T&T 0
Argentina 2 Ivory Coast 2
I'd hoped that the standard of linesmen (OK,Asst Refs) would improve in the WC. In England they are terrible frequently flagging offside when the ball has been played and received perfectly. However Poland scored a perfectly ggod goal last night and of course it was given offside. They seem to forget that the benefit of doubt should be given to the attacking player if he and the last defender are level.Linesmen seem to guess all the time and it is time that FIFA took action and stood them down for poor decisions.
Germany seem to have adopted the kamikaze approach to playing.I find this very refreshing and at odds with their "efficient" (ie boring and methodical) tag.Klinsmann seems to be a coach in the style of an Ardiles (the Spurs connection?) or a Keegan.Unfortunately in the big games this style of play will see you get hammered by the quick-breaking teams like Brazil,Spain and Czech.

I am just watching the BBC, Owen looks so sharp in the replays of his previous World Champion goals , I am sure he will score ...
Remarkable, all those England supporters in the stands wearing plastic German helmets and Crusaders capes!
My prediction for the game:
England-Paraguay 4-1 (2x Owen + Crouch + Beckham)

The England-Paraguay goes very slow and quite unattractive.

I am very curious to your opinion about the
possibilities of this German squad? What do you think, BebieM? |
We'll do fine I think. It really was just that one defender (Friedrich)
who screwed up on both goals. If we can replace him, it seems like a
good team to me.
England on the other hand .... I didn't expect them to be as good as
they pretended to be (super-arrogant by the way..) , but I didn't know
they're that bad. That was one horrible game.

Epic.

TRINIDAD & TOBAGO-SWEDEN 0-0 !!
A BIG HAND FOR DUTCH COACH DON LEO AND TRINIDAD & TOBAGO ![Clap](https://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley32.gif) ![Clap](https://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley32.gif) !
What an incredible performance by such a small Caribean island, playing most of the time with 10 men against players from Arsenal, Barcelona and Juventus. I am sure they will celebrate this in Latin-American style ![Wink](https://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif) !!!
