I once heard it said by a Rush fan that if they even released an album that had nothing but Geddy farting some tune it would be worth buying.
Obviously, we don't want that. I am excited though that they are working on another album. One can only hope that they do some longer, more instrumental type songs like La Villa and Camera Eye. I doubt it though. Those days are gone.

Geddy has said in an interview from 1980 that he would not be adverse to doing another sidelong epic if his compositions were to take him there.

Now that would be an interesting production.

micky diggin' an Opeth album...imagine what he'd do with Rush....

That would be very interesting to see or hear rather. Maybe evenmoreso than returning with Terry Brown.

Lifeson said he isn't going to "hold back" as much as he did on VT, whatever that means. Sounds good to me though. |
Meaning solos. I'm all for some solos! This "no guitar solos" mentality that originated in 1990 has to bite the dust.

Rush is my favorite band, but after their past two albums I don't get as excited about new releases from them as I used to. I will still buy the album when it comes out, but my expectations aren't that high. My main concern is that they improve on the production and mixing quality - the last album was so much sonic mud, irrespective of the compositional quality.

Right there with you. TFE was decent but I never really got into Vapor Trails. It was a lot of sound without purpose. Peart's drumming on the last CD soundy too jazzy. I haved learned to not expect anything from them because they perpetually change...which is true Prog to me.

hmmm....
sounds good to me....
submitting U2 for consideration for ProgArchives hahahha
seriously though.... prog is...what prog is... but consider it a
bit deeper than that. Change is a natural progression for any
musician... especially any (well outside of AC/DC hahaha) that have
been around for 20 or 30 years.

I hope Rush are reading this stuff , prog archives should produce a Rush CD I`d buy it As for the reality of what Rush will probably deliver , it will be good song orientated modern Rush average song length about 5 minutes in the style of Vapor trails only better recorded , don`t expect it to be all that progressive , Peart will show his form again in bursts, lifeson will return back to his form , The big surprise will be Geddy lee will provide some haunting melodies and contribute some lyrics that surprise everybody. Take the Melody of my favourite Headache (Geddy Lee) add the well written song vibe of Vapor trail and throw in "wheres my thing" intervals and that's what we will get (should be good) wait I forgot !!! Geddy pads some of the songs with keyboards to give a warm feel to some of the songs. That's my crystal ball prediction

From what I read on the Power Windows website, the new album should probably be out by the first half of 2007. Yes, it's still quite a bit of a wait, though of course shorter than the 12 years I had to wait for Kate Bush's new album.
BTW, at first I was a little disappointed by "Vapor Trails", but eventually it started growing on me. The sound quality is still rather awful, but the actual songs get better and better with each listening. The song which I took as my nickname is IMHO one of the best of Rush's whole output (not to mention the moving, heartfelt lyrics). They've still got a lot in them, so I think they will come out with something good.

A double album with the first record consisting of two side long epics in the style of the Hemispheres album and the second album consisting of songs in the 5 to 11 minute range with a nice long instrumental. Also Terry Brown would produce the album, Geddy would break out the Rickenbecker and the taurus pedals and moog. Lifeson would use his Gibson and Peart would use all acoustic drums and write some awesome lyrics about deep space and what not.

You know what I'd love is a guest background vocalist, even if its just for one song. They did this for Presto and it sounded great, and even though the part was tiny I loved Aimee Mann in "Time Stand Still" from Hold Your Fire. Also their performance of "Closer to the Heart" with guest musicians last year was the best it ever sounded IMO.
