Three posts relating to Ricochet's review:Black Knights at the Court of Ferdinand IV,have been hidden.
This kind of discussion is not what this thread was designed for and the Admin Team are considering closing this thread and starting a new one, with stricter guidelines. Only reviews that fall foul of the guidelines should be discussed here.Technical merit and mischievois criticism should be conducted by PM. ENOUGH OF THIS NOW!!! |

See a couple of pages back. It seems to be a fault with the site, TLCs reviews are only posted by him once.

SBF, Rico. Could you take any further debate on this to the PMs please. I know Shane is making a point he believes in, and Rico is understandably standing by his review, but this thread is for reporting inappropriate reviews. It becomes harder to manage if it digresses into an ongoing debate about a specific review.

Must say, sbrushfan, that I hardly understand your point of view. "Points are fine",but "the review makes no sense"? About easy to read,I have said already: I don't do reviews for the casual reader. About the blosh of words, you clearly mistake them for an argument. I am merely explaining my toughts! Anyway,I don't see not even the "blosh of words" (the developement of an idea, that is) as against the policy. What does the review mean.Simple.What I've said in the actual review.Black Knights At The Court Of Ferdinand IV is weak because (I) the neapolitan style doesn't suite Wakeman (II) the album is not more special than its previous, who are sheer mockery (III) Rick's new age (still) stinks. (IV) you have to be totally in a mood to listen to it;not a positive factor (V) quality unsatisfying. ???!!! what does it mean ????!!! --------- At first I thought that it's no big deal, but suddenly I see myself reflecting the non-sense of Prog Archives through my review.I am hardly the best in reviewing, but I do everything with passion,I do everything with the English-Romanian dictionary as guidance,I do everything with an afinity and a reasonable understanding towards the album and its message. But no....all of a sudden,in almost two consecutive review,I find complaining about doing things wrong...And now it's really getting touchy.Cause it's to already have 120 reviews (not that I'm bragging, don't judge me wrong) and succesfully applied for a mere honorific title of prog reviewer. In all my reviews,I basically focus on the same thing.More than that,my almost last 50 reviews are very similar in approach and presentation!!!All of the sudden,I'm nonsense-boy?! I'm very confused and (in this case) a little frustrated (to be absolutely sincere - just a little though),because this Wakeman review is amongst my most simple reviews I made in quite a time.Even I am surprised how simple I've summed up the main flaws.I find absolutely no reason for non-sense,for extra-packaging-words et caetera et caetera et caetera. More than that,I have to point out once more that the fact that it's not easy-reading or it's not on someone personal taste are not issues of inappropriate.I have stayed exactly in the range of explaining what's the album about.I have perfectly (my opinion) justified my 2 stars rating,I have presented the main aspects that the ones interested will find in it.What is inappropriate in that,I ask? In such cases, when my most easy explanations of an album get a place between too-short,impetuos,insulting,incomplete reviews, I wonder what will happen to albums in which I put even more effort and passion and write something more complex...I truly wonder...I am truly shocked to find myself, all of the sudden,as the main reviewer of unintelligable,of flowery style et caetera et caetera et caetera. If I'm truly deplorable,I wish I would have been noticed about this long before I expanded my view to almost 20 prog bands or was nominated as a Prog Reviewer.Title is,again I say, honorific for me,still I don't believe any nonsense-boys have every been chosen as Prog Reviewers. If not,I would desire a more firm "accusation" of being unappropriate. As moral, consecutive nominations as unappropriate don't really lift my spirit. ('peace once more?") |

Well, why is this record 4 stars? S/he doesn't say anything about content, style or presenatation.
ELOY — Time To Turn
Review by b_olariu One of the best Eloy, and maybe from '80. After The Wall, when Pink Floyd kick the buckett, this band keep the flag high in prog music. A mid tempo prog music and a good damn one. From 1975 till this one they released almost masterpieces in this genre. I can not choose an album or two because in that period they were at the top in prog. Just my opinion. The tracks that are super smooth and inventive in the same time are End of an odyssey and the flash. 4 stars. |

I don't know whether this has been already reported. I found it quite by chance, as I am listening to the album in question and was curious to see its reviews before writing one of my own. Anyway, here's our friend Mandy at it again! I can hardly make out what he means, besides that he wasn't very impressed by the album (which is magnificent; IMHO):
TRAFFIC — On The RoadReview by MANDRAKEROOT (Andrea Salvador) TRAFFIC ON THE ROADI joke with the title because I cannot do other. That disc... Tedious and (almost) nothing more. I say it clear: this disc is not a big live album, to difference of a lot other gone out in that I make sentences. In fact the medley "Glad/ Freedom Rider" is too long (same lack of "Low Spark Of The High-Heeled Boys") until me bother every time that the listening. A little better one "Tragic Magic" and "(Sometimes I feel So) Uninspired". The greater lack that I found is what this disc stinks too of Soul Music. The what also it could please. Nevertheless it gives back too heavy the result. It results, so, a disc heavy, comprehensible black and little too much. Erred. Erred for the result, because the idea it was good. For always yours, Mandrak |

Ricochet...my bone of contention is not you or Rick Wakeman. It's simply that the review makes no sense. It's not at all easy to read, and and at times, it seems less like a review and more like a blosh of words. Points are fine...people like me, FloydWright and Easy Livin do that all the time. What does it all mean?
Don't you dare put me in the same box with all the RW fanboys/haters! I don't care for him either way, for or against. Edited by sbrushfan - June 02 2006 at 14:49 |

SYMPHONY X — The Odyssey
Review by nisandzic This is good power metal album, highly driven by Iron Maiden's influence but that is all that can be said. Rhytms and vocals are too monotone, its solid and strong sound is enugh to put this as good power metal album, but I stil think that Symphony X are not progressive metal band, or they may be, but very weak prog musicians then. Symphonic elements are just not enough to me.Keyboards do not make some music progressive. Riffs are, in my opinion driven by Pantera, vocals by Iron Maiden, keyboards by various symphonic artists. This is good to hear, but it does not make effect to my vision of progressive metal. Posted Friday, June 02, 2006, 07:23 EST | Permanent link |

I am Italian, from Rome, and I know quite a bit about Neapolitan music because it's part of our cultural heritage (whose diffusion is part of my job) .
