I don't think there will be many votes for his solo work.
Which album could possibly beat the 4 (5) Marillion Fish Era albums?

Vigil is the only one that comes close...

I thought Fish with Marillion was superb. His solo stuff has been just a tad above average, however.

I haven't heard any of his solo albums as a whole, but based on a compilation I heard they can't be better than his work with Marillion.

His solo work is not as good as the Marillion-period. There are some strong moments but it´s too far between them. As stated in another thread he really misses a strong fellow composer for the music.

Fish' solo material is almost all top notch IMO. His leaving Marillion gave him more freedom to make classics like. Vigil , Felini Days , Sunsets on Empire & Feild of Crows. His voice isn't the best but he writes a great song and has worked with some very fine musicians over his career.

Work with Marillion.

Like everyone else, I believe Fish was best with Marillion. I do, however, find his solo albums quite enjoyable. Don't count them out, just because they don't reach the heights of the group efforts. Peter Gabriel has never done anything as grand as he did with Genesis, but his solo stuff is still amazing.
