And THAT, my friends, is why you should not play telescope with giant evil plants.
If you look closely, you can see Peter Gabriel standing on the rooftop screaming, "I TOLD YOU SO!!!"

GIANT HOGWEED LIVES
Now seriously, Giant Hogweed (Heracleum Mantegazzianum) is really dangerous,if you live in Washington be carefull:
Giant Hogweed contains a substance within its sap that makes the skin sensitive to ultra violet light. This can result in severe burns to the affected areas, producing swelling and severe, painful blistering. Large, watery blisters usually appear 15 to 20 hours after contact with the sap and exposure to sunlight. Damaged skin will heal very slowly, leaving residual pigmentation that can develop into Phytophotodermatitis - a type of dermatitis that flares up in sunlight for which there is no straightforward treatment.
The fuc**ng plant spreads with the air and it's very hard to control.

Is it true that we should "strike by night" because "they all need the sun to photosensitize their venom"?

Yes, as prophesized in the 3rd book of Genesis (Nursery Cryme) it is thus said:
"Soon they escaped, spreading their seed,
Preparing for an onslaught, threatening the human race..."

It's not a prophecy, it's history, Giant Hogweed went out of control in Englend before it reached USA. Of course Peter added drama, but it's not the first time Heracleum Mantegazianum gets out of control, just recently (2000 - 2002) it happened again in Ireland, Scottland and Wales.
Herbicides are temporal because they can't destroy the roots, the only solution are pigs.
They can eat the roots and are not affected by the plant.

I didn't know that. Freaky. I guess that adds a bit more substance to the song.
