well, here is a question for the musicians of us.
what is The Best chord in prog, the chord that allways gonna fit perefect to every prog song.
I love the Fmag7, infact all the mag7 are great in prog...

I love Sus chords and use them alot in my writing and also diminished fifths of course

I fully agree! As a quick reference for non-musicians, check out Rush's/Alex Lifeson's "Show don't Tell" (highlight to the perfectly fit 'A7sus4' chord in the middle-section [bar no. 87] - prior to the part where Geddy performs very powerful bass riffs) as well as Howe's intro of Yes' "Perpetual Change".

the dominant 7 chord is my favorite to play. Could be used for a nice funk rhythm or blues (1, 4, 5) or for a strange intro. Very nice chord.

Agreed. Also, sequences of bafflingly complicated chords followed by one triumphant major chord, the first of the key ... that's always good. I like the sequence F#, Gmaj7, A6 in Pyramid Song, too. Not one particular chord there, it's just the use of that constant F# note even as the chord changes and the rhythm stutters.

As far as triads are concerned I've always been intrigued by the augmented chords. Even nowadays people really shy away from using them, so they are quite shocking to hear. For extended harmonies I really like a major 6 9 chord. Major 7 with a 9 is also nice. In a recent performance I was playing a couple duets, My partner and I were playing 2 Bach inventions. In order to spice things up a bit, rather than end on the tonic triads I decided to end on tastier chords. The invention in Dm I decided to end on a D major 6-9 chord, and the invention in C I ended on C7 with a sharp 9. The audience didn't know what the hell was going on. How sweet it was.

This is a pretty weird topic, but I'm generally a fan of a good sharp 9 every once and a while. Of course the minor 9 is classic.

Minor eleventh chords are beautiful and underused. It sounds like a cross between a minor seventh and a sus4.

C-major. Bright and brillant. Just listen to the use of it in Haydn's
"Creation" after "Und es ward Licht". Unfortunately C-major is not one
of the most convincing chords on guitar though.
