Perfectly reasonable answer. I'm answering the thread question? You have something to add?

Wrong, Genesis were virtuoso composers, Yes were virtuoso musicians (though Genesis knew how to play just as well as Yes did).

as Yes could compose as well...or better than Genesis. Find me
something by Genesis that even touchs the compositional genius of
CttE. An 18 minute long song... not bits of songs strung together
and tied together lyrically... that is still considered a classic of
the genre 30+ years later.

The similarites are that both are the best rock musicians ever. The diferences are that Genesis is more mellodic , and Yes more virtuosoes.

hey Pero!... when you have Genesis fans like we did in the latest poll
question about S's R saying that they can live without this section or
that one..... I don't consider S's R anywhere near CttE in
composition. Anyone can... hell most everyone did do 'cut and
paste' epics made up of various song fragment/ideas. Personally I
think Tarkus is a better piece of music than Suppers Ready.. .the
transitions between the 'fragments' are seemless and it flows like
Supper's Ready does not. Close to the Edge is a ..... 18 minute long
song.. If you don't like portions of it... you aren't going
to like the whole damn song hahahha... don't like a section of Supper's
Ready... hit the FF button to get to the next section. I consider
it (IMHO of course) just a better piece of music.. compositionally

I think both bands are great in theire own way.
I allways thought that Yes had a better production, a lot of the early genesis has is quite poorly mixed and tracked IMHO.
Yes is far better.
I agree with the statement that Yes are Better musicans "more virutous".
Member by member.
Genesis is a bit more strong in creativity, Especially Peter Gabriel, now he is an island.
As someone mentioned Genesis dident have anything that compared to CTTE, it was countered by Suppers ready.
I think theire both master pieces, but for listening value, CTTE beats suppers ready hands down, because of poor production.
One more difference on the bands I think yes took a more world music aproach theire music.
The bass was a far more important instrument with yes.
Yes had a bigger better Vocal harmonies.
Yes relied less on lyrics, Yes got theire lead vocalist back after ditching him, something I wish genesis would have done.

Dont get me wrong but Close to the edge (and Relayer) are one of my favorite prog albums.
Foxtrot is alongside with Lamb lies two of my favorite Genesis albums.
Lamb lies is conceptual album which is far more complex than most of Yes albums.
You even mix Tarkus (also my favorite ELP album) here.
Better example of complex ELP album is Trilogy.

These are two bands I equally love. Genesis had better lyrics and a better singer. Yes were certainly better musicians. While Genesis were more theatrical, Yes were mystical and mysterious. Both bands sold out, but I believe that happened to Genesis first. Genesis were far less pretentious than Yes, but Yes had more great albums. Both are probably the best symphonic prog has to offer.
