Currently there is an advertisment that says "there is something wrong with your computer/free scan". When you click on it you get a page which tries to fool you into thinking that your computer is infected with a virus and offers free anti virus software to rid you of this virus.

Don't install that software! And unless you're using a safe browser like Firefox: Don't click the ad, not even to have a look at the following page.

It would be cool if Max could remove that ad, it's really a risk to any visitor.

Yes, that sort of ad pops up all over the place. Some of them have "OK" and "Cancel" buttons that both do the same thing. They should be banned.

I use Norton Firewall/Internet Protection 2006 and do not see any of these ads!!

They're no threat to me either, but to the unaware users (and there's a lot of them).

    Yes I understand that Mike,what I mean is that I do not see them at all! Which means maybe Max does not see them either,which is worrying....

...crazier still presumably this ad loads some kind of malware,presumably nothing more serious than spyware,onto people's computer...that makes my blood boil!

Where is this add shown? I can't see it anywhere. Only real add I see is the one with bambi protecting his forrest friends... but that one isn't too annoying imho

It is usually Spyware Quake, a particularly nasty little piece of spyware, that when installed will keep popping up a message telling you that you have viruses/spyware on your computer. Clicking this message (once the intial package has been installed - silently) will send you to a site to pay for a spyware removal tool that is made by a scumbag spyware company that deals in delivering ads on the internet. IT IS NOT A VALID REMOVAL TOOL, but in fact a means of delivering ads and spyware. It is extremely difficult to remove the intitial installation. This installation happens as soon as you click the banner ad - if you are still stupid enough to be using IE. My estimation of this site and it's intention towards its members has now gone downhill if this is the case.

Zango is too a scam, it says usually e.g. "YOU MUST INSTALL ZANGO TO PLAY THIS GAME" it is not what it seems to be, it is actually Adware. Usually involves gaming websites.

As for banner ads, PC-CILLIN Internet Security 14 has a facility to block ads as well.
