Necronomicon is good, the album Tips Sum Sjaodifuafjlsdj has a unique air about it.  It reminds me of Uriah Heep for the hardrock/prog approach, Cirith Ungol for the raw cult feeling, and Bathory for its epic style.  It has a great metal apocalyptic theme.  I never expect to here an album like it, but I don't expect it is for everybody.
 
I chose OTHER, for Amon Duul II, who should have been on that list and would probably be fighting Can for the one spot.  Why they are not as recognized as Can, Faust, and Neu is beyond me. 
 
Agitation Free should also be on that poll, because the three albums I have of theirs are perfect -  Melesch, 2nd, and At the Cliffs...
