I am very curious to your opinion which new band member had the biggest impact/influence on the music after his entry.

Personally I tend to choose for #1 Rick Wakeman: his incredible musical knowledge, his virtuosic skills, his wide range of keyboards and last but not least his creative and adventurous mind. But another #1 choice could be David Gilmour because of his wonderful flowing guitarsound, his distinctive voice and his compositional skills.

So what's your choice? By the way, I have not mentioned all bands in which the new band members have played, it's subjective and everybody is invited to name more!

Rick Wakeman -- He introduced a higher knowledge of classical music, as well as the new technology of mellotrons and moogs to Yes' music.

Steve Hogarth. Marillion became a completely different band when he joined them.

Howe right away (The Yes Album is pretty much a showcase for him), Collins over time (yes, I know it was a group effort)

Incredible, in one of my recent previous threads ('great guitar players that you have seen live') I forget to mention Alex Lifeson and now Neil Peart ..Disapprove .. Anyway, now I think about him he was a major boost to the sound of Rush, close to the level of Rick Wakeman and David Gilmour in terms of musical impact Clap !

Adrian Belew. KC became a different beast, IMO, not better nor worse, different.
And of course the infamous Mr. Rabin... you said "influential", regardless whether for better or worse.Big smile

Taking into consideration the fact that after Steve Hogarth joined in, Marillion moved out of prog, I would say Hogarth is most influential one. My vote goes for him.

Thinking about it, this could be the only poll where I would vote Hogarth.

I think Gilmour.
I like the Barrett era, but without Dave the band had no chance to be what they are.
Who are you and who am I to say we know the reason why... (D. Gilmour)

It seems to become a battle between Wakeman and Gilmour but Hogarth does well too, to my surprise. But on the other hand, he does not well for me because I left Marillion when he joined my favorite neo-progrock band Dead ..!

Probably Gilmour...or Hogarth.
