Topic: Peart's Kit Posted: May 17 2006 at 22:47 |
I just saw "Subdivisions" on VH1 Classic and lamented over the fact that Peart no longer plays that old kit on tour. Those old kits (especially the Tama's) just had that distinct sound. Not saying that he's limited now because he could play a row of Campbell soup cans and still make it sound wonderful. Just miss that old kit of his.
What do you guys think?

And by 'toms' I'm not including the standing floor toms.

I wish you'd go old school the acoustic percussion - i especially love those huge chimes he'd have to lug around!

It's funny this poll should pop up! I just recently (about 3 weeks ago) changed my set-up to reflect Peart's older design, after having my set modeled after his current set-up for nearly 3 years.
Check out pics here - http://community.livejournal.com/drumming/790218.html
I like his old style because it had more toms for him to use, but his current set-up allows for more creativity, I feel. The placement of his toms and use of electronics make it interesting, though I must say, it's fun to do tom-runs from the top to the bottom with 8 drums involved!

I know what I like and I like what I know. I will choose a path that's clear, I will choose free will. If I die tomorrow, I`d be alright because I believe that after we`re gone, the spirit carries on.

In the poll, you forgot to mention cymbals. Peart now plays Sabian Paragons (which are sweet, to be sure).

I love the old set up, too; however, I included the P/G - Hold Your Fire set up because I like his use of electronic drums--primarily the D-Drums. Especially during "Witch Hunt".

I love Peart's drumming no matter what he does, but acoustic drums are just more pleasent to my ears, maybe that's why I can't have too much Krimson.

Your kit makes me glad I don't currently own a set. My set, when I still played (late 70's) wasn't nearly as big. I'd hate to have to haul THAT kit around. My old set had Double Bass Drums, 3 mounted toms on the BD's, 2 floor toms & 2 more toms on a stand over the floor toms, plus 4 cymbals, 2 on each side.
I think the most important thing to remember here boys & girls is what Mr Peart thinks his kit should consist of.
Actually, I've always loved monster drum sets.
