I'm sure there would be people out there that would prefer to non-conform and would rather pick "others". If you are one of those people, please do just pick the lesser evil (least evil in this case). Tongue

I came up with this list solely on prominence that they appear on the top 100 list and I restricted it to the 70s (give of take a few years) bands.

The list is fine and I voted VdGG.

Except you left out Premiata Forneria Marconi with albums at 46 and 54, when you included Mahavishnu Orchestra (39, 73) and Caravan (30, 97).

A real tough choice, since I love ALL bands named in the list. But I have to go with Pink Floyd, the first prog band I've known about at the age of 4 or so.

Pink Floyd closely followed by King Crimson.

Rush has been and will continue to be my all-time favorite.
Yes is a close second.
I love ELP, KC and Floyd, and am just beginning to get into GG (recently ordered "Acquiring the Taste") Tongue

Not so difficult. Love almost all these bands, but it has to be Pink Floyd. Long list of albums equaly great or, at least, average (which didn't happen with Yes and Genesis, e.g.).
Bach, Ma, Bros, Déia, Dante.

There might be some albums better than others, but I find Rush to be my favorite prominent band. I like everything they do and, even though the style has changed, they have always experimented with melodies and rythms and that's what prog's all about (in my opinion)!

Jethro Tull...In my opinion, they never recorded a bad album during the "classic prog period" even if it wasn't prog.

I can't vote for any of these bands over the other, as I love them all (even Genesis, who are my least favourite in this list). They're all great bands that have contributed a lot to the development of prog (and rock music in general), and each has its own distinctive style and sound.
