Hi Maani, Great interview I must just add something. I wrote to Rick about a year ago. I was utterly despairing and in a pretty bad place, to my surprise not only did Rick write back but he went through my email point by point and answered every question and worry I had. It clarified a lot of things for me. Rick is a genuinely nice person and that comes across in everything he says and does. Three cheers for Rick!!! |

Excellent - thanks for that.
I met Rick quite by accident in 1982 when he walked into my favourite Indian restaurant in Birmingham. I managed to have a short chat with him and he answered all my questions sincerely and thoughtfully. I was worried that he might brush me off as a nuisance (well he did come in for a curry, not an interview!) but he was the acme of politeness, and spurred me on to continue on my own musical path (which at the time had taken a severe knock.) A true gentleman of Prog. Long may he continue! |

Elwood, you are a LUCKY MAN!
Now you could go on interviewing Keith (Emerson)... But I didnīt know Wakeman is such a Gentle Giant. Such an Honor! PS: I liked Wakeman when he took on his Cape... A pitty he didnīt do it last time He looks so serious in his black one. |

Sorry, very late (try four years), but I just joined, and wnated to comment on this.
Firstly, I thought Wakeman was someone who I wouldn't want to meet, because his manner in interviews I have seen him in seemed to be very standoff-ish, but I was wrong. In this interview (which is the first one I have seen both sides-- the questions and the answers-- in) he seems like agenuinely friendly guy, not to mention very sharp and precise in his answers, something I was not expecting at all. Plus the fact that he is a fan of my favorite band (Tool), I really feel like we would have something to talk about if I would ever meet the man, even though my instrument isn't keyboard, we could talk about music general and I believe after reading this interview that it would be the most down-to-earth, laid-back conversation I could ever have with a music legend such as himself.
I dunno, just felt like expessing that, because I was truly surprised at how nice he seemed to be. I guess not all of our musical heroes are assholes, huh?

actually, no, bob moog died back in august 22, 2005. (one day after my birthday, actually).
he was doing great things with technology in late. he had the moog-fooger and a few other stomp boxes, new incarnations of analog synths sporting midi, as well as the owner of the theramin patent. read about it here if you wish: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/music/4173510.stm |
