I'm about to power down and head out to the living room to catch the news. Before I do that, however, what is THE definitive disc in your collection? If your house/apartment was burning down, and you had the opportunity to grab one disc, what disc would you reach for? You're about to be placed in the witness protection program, and they give you a chance to grab one disc before being wisked away, what would you grab?

For 20 years, U2's The Joshua Tree was the best disc I owned. I can't tell you how often I listened to it....and how little I got tired of it. On the contrary, I loved it the more I listened to it. Then, I discovered Marillion's Brave a few years ago. Driving home from work tonight, I put in disc 2 of Marillion's Made Again--which is Brave performed live. As "Bridge/Living With The Big Lie" was blasting out of the speakers, I thought to myself, "I cannot live without Brave." If I lost my collection, Brave would be the first one I'd replace. And if it's OOP, and it's being sold on ebay, I will break just about every Commandment to be the winning bidder. Never has a CD gripped me like Brave. There are those reading this thinking, "You know, I've heard it....don't care for it." Perfectly fine by me. We all hear differently. All I know is Brave is my musical crutch. It's a collection of songs that has this amazing impact on me. It's an absolute masterpiece. Thanks, H, Mark, Ian, Steve, and Pete.

I look forward to reading the results in the morning.

I'd definitely say Ayreon's "The Human Equation." Two discs of great music with such a nice variety. The entire album never gets old, and whenever any of its songs come on from Shuffle, I always listen to it. It doesn't really have any weak areas at all.

Harmonium-Si on avait... most likely, the runner-up would be Ardley's "Kaleidoscope of Rainbows."

Hybris, mainly because it's autographed by the entire band and would be almost impossible to replace.
Picking one album for musical reasons alone... I just can't do, there are so many that mean so much to me.

it couldn't be anything but Ommadawn. More stirring than Wagner in places, and in others the perfect example of pastoral beauty. I can't sit through the piece without being moved. Going to play it right now.

Gosh, thats a really hard question........I go through waves of playing something non stop and then not playing it for ages, I rediscover stuff I used toplay to death and reappreciate it.
Hmmmm.............most listened to in our gaff right now is the David Gilmour "on an island" pushes an awful lot of buttons..............but blimey, this is ONE album FOREVER right? it's couldn't be DG, I need to yell and (as Ivan so neatly put it) "shake my booty" from time to time, and DG wont give me that..........
Maybe some opera? ........nah, maybe ..........

I am really stumped with this, it could be George Michael, or Sade, (don't tell the prog police!) or it might be something like Believe (Pendragon) or Ever (IQ) Or I am playing the last Annie Lennox album A LOT!!!..........

I am stumped, no answer "by the morning" from me, but I willl definately think it over during the day!

I would probably be burned down with the house due to my inability to choose...

Otherwise, I'd let it burn and with the insurance money, buy it all back.

Does it have to be prog? If so.... something by Pain of Salvation. BE i think.

If not, Quartet For The End of Time by Olivier Messiaen is really speaking to me at the moment. I mean i just got it and everything, but i thought to myself the other day "if there were one CD i would want to listen to before i died, right now it would have to be Quartet For The End of Time."
