500 dollar album!!!

an original MAM pressing of the "Fuzzy Duck" album i had my eye on just sold for nearly 500 US dollars (about 245 in £ sterling) on ebay last night. a lot to pay for an lp you might think, but still a tiny fraction of the average council tax bill and about half my annual car insurance bill, so for something the lucky owner will always have and could increase in value in the future, a very sensible investment indeed! and something that can be played and enjoyed forever. my point is that many very good albums such as "Fuzzy Duck" were overlooked in 69/70/71, as personally i remember seeing such albums in the shops at the time, and passed them up as they were an unknown quantity. at the time i was going for music such as led zeppelin, the stones, catching up on those beatles albums i missed and deep purple. as i'd just left school and wasn't earning much an lp purchase, even second hand if you could find anything you wanted, was a bit of a gamble. some stores would have listening booths (heard led zep 1 on one of those) but you'd have to get in te queue and probably only hear 2 tracks anyway, and the only other guide to go by was a short review in "sounds". also you couldn't take it back to the shop if you didn't like it!  an album purchase was a big lump out of a week's pay in those days, a toss-up between buying an album by an unknown group, not giving mum her keep money, not getting petrol for the car or telling the girlfriend you couldn't take her out this week! so all these years on thanks to reissues by record companies such as "Repertoire" and "Akarma" i am at last able to catch up on these "lost gems" for very affordable prices- cheers guys! and after years of wondering (and some excellent reviews from fellow members on PA on some albums)  i am at last able to relish the delights of  groups such as "bakerloo", "leafhound" (not prog i know!), to hear some of those legendary albums on spiral vertigo, also "spring", "gracious", "Dr.Z", "Can", "steel mill", "may blitz", and most of all "fuzzy duck" and "quatermass", an absolutely excellent lost gem in my opinion!
