I know most of us have known about this possibility for a while now,
but this is still great news. The latest Opeth news post included this
bit of info:
"The rumoured collaboration between Mikael Åkerfeldt, Steven Wilson (Porcupine tree) and Mike Portnoy (Dream theater) will probably become reality in a near future. The project will maintain a low key and interviews will be sparse. This will be a sheer musical communion that its members wish to keep clear of the "supergroup" hype." I can't wait to see what comes out of this! |

I posted Akerfeldt's comments on this in the "New Super Group" thread in this section.

Nice to feed expectation with something more substantial, even though
fans from the threesome will dismally await to taste the unnerving
combination, in relief for doubts of how it'll sound, as I too will be
looking forward to.

What is prog rock ?
It is music that does progress. Progressive music takes a riff, turns it inside out, plays it upside down and the other way around, and explores its potential. K.Emerson |

I can't wait to hear this
I love what Wilson did with Opeth's sound, but I wouldn't like to see these guys do a death metal kind of thing. I think Mikael and Steven's voices are just angelic so id like to hear something softer

I don't think that what we're about to hear is something that's too close to the various bands of the band members.
I'd love to see some electronica incorporated in the music |

I think Wilson is capable of playing bass?
But maybe a guest musician... |

I would like to see Mikael scream instead of him growling. That would be interesting too.

^ which I thought released a brilliant debut album so I wouldn't mind
(haven't heard their latest though) but knowing Wilson he won't duplicate OSI... because then he wouldn't be progressive, eh? And we all know his perspective when it comes to being progressive |

You mean like on the early Opeth records?
I hated Mikael's voice back then

Portnoy played drums for OSI but he had no hand in writing the music. All the music was written by Jim Matheos and then messed around with by Kevin Moore. As far as I know, MP had no creative control in the project, so if you don't like it, at the very least, don't hold it against him. |

That sounds awesome. I've been waiting for something like this to happen since Wilson's guest appearance on Office of Strategic Influence's self-titled release. Reading this news fills me with anticipation. Thank you, Ser Revere.
