Don't know if this is another hoax but according to my morning paper Dagens Nyheter) Genesis will reunite next tuesday (next tuesday...hmm)
The paper says that it will be the classic 5-man line-up and that they will do a new album as well as a tour where they will stage The Lamb, and film it.

I'm quite sceptical to this though, but we'll find out next tuesday...

And no, there's nothing on it at their webpage. http://www.dn.se/DNet/jsp/polopoly.jsp?d=10

(Why does my english suck?)

cool, I hope its true!
No one knows what the purpose of it originally was or if it had a purpose at all. Personally I think it was a pure artistic creation from the beginning.

I saw the article just now, and I couldn't find any information anywhere else in the quick search I just did, but this is what the article in DN says:

Peter Gabriel back in Genesis
On tuesday it will be official: Genesis re-unites, with Peter Gabriel on vocals and Steve Hackett on guitar. While Phil Collins retaks his place behind the drums.

Except for a charity concert in 1982 it is 31 years since they were on stage together. But now it is a fact. Genesis' legendaric five men line-up, with Peter Gabriel on vocals and Phil Collins behind the drums, are re-united.

A new album comes this autumn and will be followed by a tour where the group is expected to re-create the scene version of their concept album "The lamb lies down on Broadway". A show that never was filmed when it was done, but of which the legend has only grown stronger through the years.

According to what Dagens Nyheter know, Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins will announce the reunion officially this tuesday on a mutual press conference in Los Angeles.

Under the first half of the 70s, Genesis released four studio albums and a live album with this line-up, which was considered groundbreaking within  progressive rock music. Peter Gabriel left the group 1975 and has since had a successful career and is considered a pioneer within world music, music videos and multimedia.

Genesis latest album, "Calling all stations", came 1997. Even Phil Collins had by then left the band and both the album and the following tour was a huge flop.

- The reason to why the 70's setting of Genesis split was that everyone in the band was a music writer, the band's key member, keyboard player Tony Banks told me when I met him at the band's management in London.

- There were simply too many ideas floating around. And during that time we looked upon all side prohjects as unthinkable if you wanted to stay in the band. You can easily say that we have all matured since that.

I hope you don't mind the lousy English.

A Google search on 'Genesis to reform' threw back this brief announcement made in March this year:

There were numerous hits on the subject, but I think it WILL happen at some point. I think they are being ambiguous about the date of the announcement to keep everyone guessing and interested. This will be a dream come true for me!!

Dagens Nyheter have talked quite a bit about this: Two articles (I've posted the other in a thread similar to this here at PA.) and a mention in an article about the blog society.

In the latter article, the author speaked about how many bloggers write about what they think is the truth and the Genesis reunion was brought up as an example. The press conference was just a rumour that existed on the net, but not in the real world.
