I am getting to love VDGG's music - but not Peter Hamill's voice, which spoils everything they do.
Genesis have a much better singer and I love Hackett's guitar playing.

Sooner or later you'll probably get into Hammill, if you plan to listen
some more to VdGG. I had some troubles myself, especially on the second
generation albums. He's my favorite vocalist now.

Genesis anyday. Much more interesting and diverse IMO. "Supper's Ready" > "Pleague of Lighthouse Keepers" too.

I voted VdGG because each album I own of theirs (all but Still Life and Present) are very very good. While Genesis has the Cryme through Wind and Wuthering with a few really crappy albums, definitely not as solid a carreer as VdGG

hahahah.... man...what's with all the polls.... but since I still hold
the presidency of the local 'get a life' club.... I'll bite...
Genesis.... far more consistant than VdGG... though the high points of VdGG rival anything Genesis ever did.

Both, equaly. No vote from me this time. Plus, the contrast between both bands is something to cheerish, since, being from that very specific years, the music work took them very far away from each other. While Genesis got a lot of semi - clones, I havent heard of any VDGG wanna be... strange...

VdGG for me, because they are far more adventurous than Genesis. Plus Genesis were no longer Genesis after Hackett had left.
Genesis is one of the most copied bands in prog though.

VdGG. I'm not much of a Genesis fan.
