POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD for those who haven't bought the album yet.

Okay, so I think the packaging for the new album is incredibly cool, but I can't get the "stereoscopic glasses" to work! When I look through them at the album art, it just looks really blurry :(. Does anybody else have this problem? I want to experience this the way it's meant to be, but it doesnt seem to be working.

On a side note, I'm about to listen to the album :D. I hope it's as cool as the packaging LOL

Personally I don't use the glasses, just cross my eyes.  I've never had a problem with stereoscopic pictures, it takes me 2-3 seconds max to get the effect.

Meh.... not to bothered about the packaging, although the artwork is cool. Its the music that matters for me.

I also find the glasses give me double visioun when useing them, is this the point or am I doing something wrong?

Sounds like a pointless gimmick to me!

I wouldn't call it a pointless gimmick. If the glasses and 3D artwork (admittedly completely badass) can convince at least a few people from downloading the album and buying the actual CD, all the better. I do believe that the most important part of a musical album is, of course, the music, but the cover artwork and booklet are essential elements to the listening experiance as well.

As far as Tool's recent album packaging, I'd say it's within the top five album designs in my collection, completely unique and very well done. Also, the double vision with the glasses can take pratice for some people. I for one find them extremely easy to use and can't look at the pictures in any other way; some of my friends can instantly recognize the 3D images while others constantly have trouble.

That is the point.  Crossing your eyes gives you double vision, right?  If you've ever done the old Magic Eye pictures, its the same thing.  Crossing my eyes is very natural for me, I think because of a stigmatism I have or something, I've always been able to do the Magic Eye pictures in an instant, same with the 10,000 Days art when it was first posted online.  The glasses are supposed to give the effect of crossing your eyes a little to make it easier.

Basically your brain percieves depth by combining the images of your left and right eye and "calculating" it.  You can't get depth from a flat picture because the right and left eye are seeing it from the exact same angle.  If you have two pictures taken from different angles, you can get the depth because you have a left and right eye input.  By crossing your eyes, you are viewing the left image with your right eye, and the right image with your left eye.  Its the same thing with those red/blue glasses, the red eye visualizes the blue, and the blue eye visualizes the red, so your left and right eye are getting differently angled inputs.  Those are not as high quality as a simple stereoscopic picture, though.

BTW, many know that AEnima, Lateralus, and 10,000 Days have all had some kind of special gimmick with the cover art, but Undertow has one as well.  Hold it up to a light, and you will be able to see the fat lady encaged inside the ribcage.  I wonder how they plan on topping this on their next album.

Very few people are doing anything interesting with CD packaging.  Kudos to Tool.  (And it doesn't hurt that the music's good.)  Thumbs Up

Just got the album yesterday, good stuff indeed! At first I was afraid that the packaging was too gimmicky, but then I actually used the stereoscope, and it's trippy in a way. I don't really see it as necessary, but hey, they felt like doing it, so they did, and I was entertained for 15 min looking at the pics *yes i was bored*.
