Which is best? The guitar or keyboard solos from DP?
Personaly i think the keyboard solos, songs like burn just wouldn't be as good if it was a guitar solo instead.

I don't think it should be based on whether or not a song wuold be better or worse if the solo contained within were of the opposite instrument. It should be based on the solos that exist. I chose guitar. I would say drums but they are not a choice.

there is no way to answer this poll, ritchie blackmore and jon lord were equally gifted in the use of their instruments and they are impossible to compare!!

Deep Purple served up some mighty guitar and keyboard solos in their time.A particular favourite of mine is the live version of Black Night which features what can be best described as a titanic duel between Lord and Blackmore.Wonderful-my second favourite live recorded performance after "Bytor" by Rush.

This may irk some DP fans, but the recent Steve Morse lineup really smoked live. He brings new life & a totally new approach to the old DP standards, as well as being a much more versatile & gifted player than RB...So it's guitar, although not necessarily for Blackmore's playing (although he's a fine player in his own right)...
Too bad that Tommy Bolin was already on his way out when he joined the band...Still, Come Taste The Band was a fine record...So, it's still guitar!!!

Impossible to choose.
Take Highway Star for example: Each instrument is given a chance to shine & both rise to the challenge admirably. One of my favorites.

Jon Lord is the master of organ swells. The answer is definitely better keyboard solos. i also love the little drum solo/outro to Emmaretta of the self-titled album. i was proud to tell Paicey this when he came with Deep Purple touring Australia. I live in Adelaide. i took a 10" drum skin for him to sign and we were all lining up for signatures. i just said, "man i totally love that outro you do on Emmaretta" and he said "wow, like thanks dude". I think he was blown away that someone actually loved something before 'Smoke' or other popular songs. Any of you drummers out there would understand!
I recently bought a dvd of Lord's and he manages to pull out the stops even today!

Both are fantastic, but I chose guitar because of my steadfast love for the great Man in Black, Ritchie Blackmore. Steve Morse is a very gifted guitarist as well, but Ritchie, in a way, was Deep Purple.

Love both, but it has to be Ritchie. I can't understando why someone can imagina a Deep Purple guitar solo without him. Morse can be more skilled than him, but he's got "the blues", if you know what I mean.
Long live Ritchie!
PS: Ritchie's solos are better live than in studi. Listen to "Burn" in Live in London and other stuff from this era.
