The stuff I've heard from them is not very proggy, but still features some prog influences and a couple of progressive songs.

More like a bunch of extremely talented prog artists capitalizing on
their names to make some money in the pop venue. Most of what
I've heard from them is basic 4/4 short songs that seemed to be slapped
together. Nothing impressive considering all the talent that is
there.

Here Asia are in Prog-Related - which is a good definition for them, if I may say so. They indeed have some relation to prog, both as regards the band members and the songs they performed - though, in the latter case, the relation is often quite remote. I haven't heard anything from Asia for a very long time, but I remember that, when the first album was released, I was far from impressed.

Plain pop-rock I would say. Good one, though. Prog related is so general that doesn't mean anything to me. Almost every group in the 70's can be considered prog related, as well as the 80's bands with roots in the 70's too. And the late 60s groups, too.

I call Asia Arena Rock.
Like - Boston, ELO, Rush (everything after hemispheres), The muisc is technical but nothing really progressive.

well for the first 3 albums Arena Rock (light prog touches) and above all the first one which is extreme good AOR.
Since John Payne it's melodic rock that is to say AOR "à l'ancienne" like Journey, Toto,...some really good stuff in the second era but don't hope to see real prog sound, just whispers. But it doesn't make them bad!

Prog-Related, but only because members of the band used to be in Prog groups.
The music is almost nothing like Prog.
It's AOR Rock.

I thought there were some prog elements in their songs- certainly enough to keep me happy, anyway. I've been an advocate of them for a while- I even enjoyed their last album 'Silent Nation' a huge amount which had some quite proggy tunes, imo. In fact, as I've heard it a few times, it's probably the best album I have heard of theirs since the debut.
I see absolutely no reason why they should be moved from 'prog related' though. They obviously aren't a full blown prog band, but imo they are a damned good band nonetheless!
