Well, I'm married and my wife loves prog (I taught her ).
Probably prog-heads aren't successful with chicks... why not try adult, intelligent, real women?

Haha, well i'm definitely a shy guy and i hardly ever go out. I prefer the solitude. I never actually tried to pick up a chick, so i don't know how my luck would pan out. Honestly though, progressive rock is something i only delved into very recently. Ive been a Tool fan for years, thats about it.

It is a numbers game.. the more you try the higher chance you have .. don`t shot too high don`t aim too low and always show respect and you can`t go wrong (that's what I do) the average guy (which most guys are) statistically has a 1/10 chance (those are the odds scientifically worked out by experts) so accept rejection as a fact of life and bravely soldier on till you eventually get lucky

The nice thing about most woman is they usually weigh considerably less than 200 pounds or 90.7 Kg if you like, thus making them relatively easy to pick up.

Why do you need a girlfriend who likes prog? You should look for someone that you can get along with. If they have to like prog to get along then there is something wrong with you.

I've never had a problem meeting women, but prog usually never came up in the conversation either. None of the women I've been with were ever really into it. A few tolerated it, but that's about all.

I like the solitude too. I have never really tried to get a girl who could tolerate this stuff. But it's never bothered me... too much.

So you're not part of society? No wonder prog guys can't get chicks
If you guys are really desperate (and no I'm not, been married, and
living with my girlfriend for 3 years now) try going to Japan. If
you're a white guy and have decent game, they say getting Japanese
girls is like shooting fish in a barrel. Roppongi is the best
place. And don't forget the saran wrap!

Yea, finding a girl you can click with is hard enough, and if you throw
prog fan into the equation you're ba sically asking to be alone. My
girlfriend is nice and tolerates my prog tendencies but shes more of a
classic rock gal, I guess I can live with that

I might help if you don't wear the "Proggers do it longer" tee shirt.

Yeah, that old stereotype; the guy who listens to weird music, reads sci-fi with no social skills who will one day grow up to be Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons.
I think you'll be lonely if you listen exclusively to prog and refuse to "waste time" listening to other types of music. This would exclude you from hanging out where other people are. Lack of interaction would mean lack of social skills. I think a true progger would be able to apreciate other forms of music, no matter what it was.
My experience has been different from the stereotype. My first kiss was from a gorgeous woman who was a major ELP fan. She was a friend of my sister's who was moving. She jokingly said "A goodbye kiss for you" and leaned in for a peck on the cheek.I went for it. Full on the lips. Full dip. I still have the copy of Brain Salad Surgery that she left behind.
Sorry to digress.
My wife's first concert was Zappa and has been a fan ever since. She loves my music. She likes "Supper's Ready" but has never sat and listened to the whole thing beginning to end. We sat and listened to the entire "Meddle" album just the other day. She has introduced me to a lot of music that I never would have listened to, like Lauren Hill, The Waterboys and some lesser Motown hits. We both like Peter Gabriel.
Of my friends that grew up loving prog, they are all married.
So, it's just a stereotype. I'm sure we all move through life at our own speed on our own path.

YAWN!
Prog is NOT music for "lonely guys.........etc" it is music for everyone, all ages, both sexes, all releationship types.
Darren is right, I have often thought "comic store guy" about sums of the guys you see at prog gigs, but hey that is about THEM, not about the music.
Take responsibility for you own life, DO NOT blame the music!
There are "comic store guys" attatched to pretty much ALL genres of music, and of other things too....the only person that can stop you turning into that guy is YOU!
Widen your interests, as Darren says, you need to have other interests so you can a) REALLY appreciate prog, b) so that you do not become a total dullard.
Interesting & fun guys do not pick up chicks............ they get picked up!
Sorry to sound harsh, but I have been around the block a couple of times (and being a girl I know these things!!!) and some of you kids need to get more daylight. Less computer time, more fresh air, and OTHER INTERESTS if you want to pick up chicks!
Good Luck!

If you really think this,
I would suggest that you cannot "pick up chicks" for other reasons than your musical tastes (never stopped me from having girlfiends) .
The first reason I could come up with is the "picking up chicks" attitude, which does not stand in too well with roughly 100% of the female populations and more like 80% of the world population (males included).
Sorry, telling it as I see it
