That was a nice surprise! At the end of tonight's new episode of The Simpsons, they were having an academic awards show thing, and when they announced the award for "Best Flutist," Martin came out and played a flute line really similar to the one from Thick as a Brick. I thought it was just a coincidence, but then he started singing the song (he got in "...and the sandcastle virtues are all swept away" before Lisa hit him with a chair). Then, as the credits rolled, they played the actual song! It was great to see my favourite song on TV, even if it was being made fun of LOL.

It's not on here yet. I'll have to watch it when it's on!

I've heard that the creator is a huge fan of Captain Beefheart.

That was so funny. That's definately the hardest I've laughed at The Simpsons in a long time. The best part is that at most 15% of the people watching it actually got it :)

Sounds pretty funny.
One likes to believe
In the freedom of music
But glittering prizes
And endless Compromises
Shatter the illusion
Of integrity

Actually, not only is Matt Groening a huge Beefheart and Zappa fan, he was one of Zappa's closest friends in the last years before his death, and claimed him as one of his major influences. He was actually planning to launch a stage version of Zappa's last amazing work, "Civilization", but so far it hasn't happened...

The episode is "Girls Just Want to Have Sums (HABF12)"

And I loved hearing the 'real' version over the closing credits!

If you Matt Groening then that wouldn't surprise me at all. He's a huge Residents fan too.
