Just recently, my band broke up.

If you want the story I'll tell you. We were a solid blues rock band, and then, the drummer didn't want to make blues rock anymore so he quit and started his own heavy metal band, and all the other band members quit and joined his band too (so it's actually more like I was kicked outOuch). and the worst part is, he didn't want me to know about the other band because he didn't want me in it (I know about this because my good buddy told me about it).

So, now I'm depressed.

So, fellow progheads, what do you recomend I do and/or listen to?

I reccomend you listen to Elliott Smith, Smiths and on a more progressive note you could listen to Peter Gabriel number 2. You could also make a rival band to they'res and have a band off.
Another emotional suicide, overdosed on sentiment and pride

Indeed, create an Internet prog band, featuring members of this forum, then release the album privately.

So does this other band have a guitarist then?

Well, if you still really like playing the blues, then listen to bluesy stuff like Gilmour or whatever. Then, make it your goal to get so much better than them that they look bad. And don't get upset at me for saying this, but powerful stuff gets written when you feel powerful emotions, good or bad, so try to channel it into your music. And of course slash his tiresThumbs Up

I played in bands for three decades and what you're experiencing is just part of the business.  There's nothing more frustrating than to put years into building up a following and reputation only to see somebody in the band flake out and mess up everthing you worked so hard to achieve just because they weren't "happy."  There's only one thing to do and that's to continue the journey and associate yourself with the best musicians you can and hope that you can find the right combination.  Giving up is not an option unless you find you were doing it for all the wrong reasons in the first place.

I stepped out of my band because they were making crappy music.

Guess what? They're all flocking back to me :P

Or atleast the drummer is, and he kicks ass.

Ah, band drama. I wish I could say I wasn't all too familiar with that.

If they had to be this underhanded and sneaky about it, who needs 'em anyway?

Start a new band! Big smile
