This Los Angeles Califonian guitarist of Switzerland's prog rock band FLAME DREAM(6 LPs Vertigo Phonogram AG Produced/Mix by John Acock(Steve Hackett/Adrian Legg/Rick Wakeman).Been playing since 8;about 37 years now.When I moved to London,Mr.Peter Gabriel (who I met in bath England whilst playing in a local band.);helped this Los Angeles guitarist a lot as a youth.Dale Hauskins http://www.myspace.com/dalehauskins

Along with thousands and thousands of American 14 year olds who were all wondering "what in the heck am I going to do with my life?" I sat down in front of the black and white television screen one night and the Beatles came on the Ed Sullivan Show and performed for an auditorium full of young girls screaming at the top of their lungs in an effort to get their attention. I, like the aforementioned tetosterone-sated hordes, pointed at the screen and said (in unison) "THAT'S what I want to do!" That's all she wrote. Look no farther. The end of the world as we know it. Had to get an electric guitar and amp ASAP and start buying records to learn by ear. Lots of bands that came after the Fab 4 affected me but no one stopped the globe from turning like they did that night. I only hope my own children can experience a defining moment in their lives as clear-cut as that one was for me.

I started playing classical upright bass about 5 years ago in school, and then picked up the electric about a year later.

I've been playing guitar for about 8 years now but interestingly it was playing guitar that got me into listening to punk and rock, which then evolved into a likeing for metal and now prog.

I can also play the octave mandola, and know a few fundamentals about playing piano. But the instrument I have the most fun with other than guitar is the Theremin, ok it hasn't got a volume antenna but for what I use it for (background sound effects/noise) it does the job very well.

As a project over summer I'm considering building a simple analog synthesiser. Big smile

when I was born, Graceland was the hit on the radio. Apparently when I was a baby, I used to groove to that song (and album). Cool

- I didn't find out about this until I bought the album a few weeks back, I think it is my earliest connection to the bass guitar. Tongue

I was a Nirvana fan through out most of my starting months as a bass player (this was 7 years back, mind you), however I was mainly learning classic rock and blues numbers. My teacher, Brian Griffiths, started me on the path to getting into classic rock. I don't expect anybody here to know the name, however he played in this band: http://www.merseybeatnostalgia.co.uk/html/the_big_three.html - with Johnny Gustafson who went on to play in Quartermass and Roxy Music (I have yet to hear either band).

Eventually (about a year into lessons) he started showing me albums and pictures of him playing with John Lennon and such. He even showed me some interviews that showed Steve Howe, and Rory Gallagher citing him as one of their major influences. Brian Griffiths is my major influence.

No one knows what the purpose of it originally was or if it had a purpose at all. Personally I think it was a pure artistic creation from the beginning.
