Well, although it is a rock opera, its not really prog, its musical theater.
I love it, its one of my favourite shows, but not really prog
I can strangle a canary in a tin can and it would be really original, but that wouldn't save it from sounding like utter sh*t.

I should clarify that while I think it would be a worthy addition, only in the "prog-related" section.  But what do i know? I think I'm little too new to this site to be spouting of my opinion on what should be deemed proggy enough for this site (but I won't let that stop me).

I'd support the addition of the original recording (with Ian Gillan) in the Various artists section. Not the addition of any of the stage show recordings though.

JCS is a "proper" fully composed Rock opera, with structured recitative and aria.

Quadrophenia is a simple soundtrack by comparison. One might just as well include the soundtrack to "Head" by the Monkees...

listen to "The Last Supper" (if you have the recording alreadySmile) for heaven's sake!
and after that, please listen to the album from the beginning to the end. I don't know any other album that holds so well together, with recurring themes and linked pieces (which also makes room for another prog characteristic: time signature changes...)
 
mmm... maybe all those who argue against this album are judging on one track, possibly "King Herod's Song"LOL
 
btw, I saw the film only once and I don't have the soundtrack, but I'm more inclined towards the original cast recording with Gillan's incredible voice...
Listen to Turkish psych/prog; you won't regret:
Baris Manco,Erkin Koray,Cem Karaca,Mogollar,3 Hürel,Selda,Edip Akbayram,Fikret Kizilok,Ersen (and Dadaslar) (but stick with the '70's, and 'early 80's!)

why not open a new category as "Rock Operas"?!?!? the genre is closely related to prog. think about the other examples (e.g. War of the Worlds, and 666, which are already here)
