 Topic: Mars Volta Fans

Why do Mars Volta fans always get bad mouthed? No one bashes Yes fans, or Dream Theater fans, so what is up? I am a Mars Volta fan, and I am apparently an idiot who doesn't know anything about music. So, could someone explain this for me?

All fans get bad mouthed at one point or another, I don't think the Volta fans are exclusive to that.

I can feel this thread becoming another rude argument  I don't know why all the stupid jerks are attacking them. Maybe that's because they're the most original and innovative band out there and they're the easiest to pick on. Maybe the music is too complicated for them to get into and they choose to bash it. BTW, You're absolutely wrong about DT: they're the biggest scape-goat of prog world, EVER. Now close this thread for good Tony!

No one bashes Dream Theater fans?
Dream Theater fans are the most abused don't worry. I don't think the Mars Volta are that abused at all. In fact, even some prog fundamentalists like them a lot too.
But you have to get used to people bashing it. Just like it because you like it.

They're very popular, hence there's a lot of fans both dumb and smart. The dumb ones tend to stick out more.
And when I say dumb, I don't mean that they're stupid people so much that they're inexperienced with music. So a lot of them don't know a lot about other bands, they're not aware of a lot of the older music. That's why they get picked on, they're seen as ignorant by the more elitist members of this (or any music) community. So, it's really just elitism.

Eh, lots of people have an unreasoning hatred for Pink Floyd. Lots of people hate Dream Theater too.
I think parts of FTM are good, but overall I don't like it too much. It's too repetitious.

I don't think Mars Volta Music is all that great or complicated. It is made up of a series of random noise effects and than pieced together like frankenstein with bad lyrics. Just because i dislike thier music doesn't mean all have too.

I can think of a member here who hates every major band... Genesis - Trouserpress Yes - Fantomas VDGG - Greenback Rush - The Baldies DT - Peter, and countless others! Jethro Tull - Tony R Zappa - Ricochet Gentle Giant - Manunkind Pink Floyd - Philippe I love em all

those bands. If you don't like a band, ignore them. Don't
make posts about how much they suck. (My comment is not directed

I think TMV are awesome, but I rarely tell any of my indie rock friends because they make fun of me for it. Whatever.

Mars Volta are not as good as they are "billed" to be , they don`t compete with even average prog bands (like tool) yet they get the accolades of being brilliant or something ? (I mean if it is weird you want listen to Primus or Hawkwind, if its complex you want listen to Magma Anglagard or King Crimson) The world can live without trendy prog bands like The Mars Volta and they deserve every bit of disrespect they receive they bring nuffin new to the table so don`t let em eat ! Don`t get mad with what I have posted because the truth hurts ... get over it
