My music will make you feel like you are.
(shameless, aren't I?) Justin Turner Enjoy. It's a combination of progressive rock/electronica, though I'm moving towards a more progressive electronica phase right now. I might put up my album on the forum, which is totally different from the stuff up on the website. But until now, just a little taste of what I've got going is up thar on that hyperlink thar me mateys! Edit: Aight, I added a couple of songs - "Sun, Clouds, Moon and Stars" is a song inspired by a girl - so expect sappiness - but I made sure to make it interesting (I have a really great classical interlude with the strings I'm sure ya'll will like) "Frankly Speaking" is one of the rockier tunes I've made. I tried hard to make the guitar solo quite heavy, almost dream-theater-ish but quite a bit jazzier. Weird harmonization on the solo. Another something I'm sure you prog-archives folks will appreciate. Edit #2: Alright, added a song called "Tchaikovsky's 1988 Overture". It's almost 0% classically inspired. There's some interesting 6/8 rythmic variations, including swing beats, movements varying between 3/4 and 6/8, etc. etc. etc. Expect a reggae interlude in the middle, and a pretty dramatic ending. You'll like it kids, I swear. Edited by I|I|I|I|I |

I can strangle a canary in a tin can and it would be really original, but that wouldn't save it from sounding like utter sh*t.

Thanks, man
I'm trying to find a place on the internet to put my album, which is waaaaay proggier and quite a bit more varied. But my recent work is fairly good for chill music (at least, some of it). |

Yeah, I'm using Fruity Loops 5, so it'll be a bit electronic until I
get the technology to record some more acoustic kinda stuff. But for
now, electronica. I'm more "natural" than some of Kraftwerk's or
Jean-Michel Jarre's albums, in my defense.

Okay, another update: A nice li'l song in 11/4. I know you guys like
weird time signatures so you'll feel right at home with this guy.
Oh, and it's got tribal stuff in it. Another good 'un. |

Well, I really don't like flying, but I have often been urged to "take a flying f*ck at a rolling donut."
It's much more difficult than you might think -- the angle is all wrong, for one thing.... |

"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy! O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!' He chortled in his joy. |

Hmmm... maybe that's where those glazed and cream-filled donuts come from.... Eeyew! |

Well, that looks like an excellent donut (for eating, dammit)
But what did you think of the music? |

Hey, you're in my "neck o' the woods"! (relatively speaking)
Listening to "Frankly Speaking" now. I dig it, very jazzy. It reminds me a lot of Spacetime Continuum. The mix could use a little help on the low end, though. Is it a low bit rate file? |

I don't know much about mixing, I just make the music, but I could of
course learn more about that. Since I don't know much, do you have any
starting tips that could help me know where I can start improving the
mix?
Edit: Actually, I think I know what part of the problem is. I'm listening to the original file right now, and the file on purevolume, and they sound different. Perhaps purevolume does something to the bit-rate/streaming or something when I put it on the site? Edited by I|I|I|I|I - April 22 2006 at 15:05 |

Sorry, just saw this. Yeah, that's a possibility - maybe they convert the file to VBR (variable bit rate) when they stream it, and that affects the sound quality when the connection's slow. Anyway, keep it up! Sounds good. |
