It would already be a "radical" solution to have some designated people decide that an album is non-prog ... there'll be some tough changes.
Let's decide that later, when genre per album is available, shall we? ![Smile](https://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif)

But Genral opinion of the people involved make the decision, probably BG will stay, or even We Can't dance, but the group by simple votes decide.

I don't like the idea of "excluding" any of the bands recently added. For me, it's useful to know the comments on albums by Deep Purple, Queen... I think the idea of labeling the albums as "non prog" and not allowing them to appear on the ranking is quite good.
One of the reasons for visiting PA is that the reviews are made by people with tastes similar to mine, the labels are not that important...

The very idea of removing parts of discography is againsr everything I believe in here. No way do I want to see ANY album removed.

^ That's another advantage of just labeling the albums non-prog ... it can be easily reversed, and no reviews or ratings are lost. That also means that it isn't a crucial decision, so we don't need complicated votes. Which would be kind of time-consuming with more than 10,000 albums ...

I tend to agree with you tinking things better, but it would be a hell of a job tagging Non Prog after listening 25,000 (Oxymoron) albums in my case ![Ouch](https://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley18.gif)

Not necessarily. When genre by album is introduced, we simply copy the artist genre to the albums. Then, little by little, we can mark the "exceptions". It wouldn't hurt at all if "We Can't Dance" will then be marked as "Symphonic Prog" until we get around to marking it differently.

The advantage is that the well known bands is easy, wqhen he have to deal with bands from Tanzania or Pre-Perestroika Yougoslavia or Romania bands, where info is very limited.
And believe me, we have a lot of rare bands from the most exotic places (where we don't have a single member.
But yes it's a better idea, I agree now (With slight reservations).

i think we should include ALL the albums of a prog artist: this will allow people to analyze the progression/regression of the artist, and even orient their taste for every album of the artist.
for example, mike oldfield was first prog, then he turned new age but he did excellent new age albums like song from the distant earth, and this is something i really appreciate to know.

I've allways thougt adding genres to albums would be a great improvement. Cheers to PA for finally taking the step.
Thinking of it. Why don't you collaborators create a poll-option for each album in which you define the possible genres and let members vote between the options (I believe Mike mentioned a thing like this).
Example:
Queen 2:
x Art-Rock (40%)
x Symphonic Prog (35%)
x Non Prog (25%)
445 votes
[cast your vote]
or
Hot Space
x Non Prog (85%)
x Art Rock (15%)
These numbers would be quite informative to newcomers, apart from the rating.

^ This would be a great addition to the reviews ... you would simply need to add a genre dropdown to the review form.

Agreed ... having the entire discography was always the policy of the archives, and even looking at the non-prog albums of a discography can be useful to understand the artist, and the opinions about him.

i proposed some time ago a thing like that...
in fact, every album is made of a certain amount of percentage of each subgenre.
this would be however a tedious task...

Sorry man, but see this as almost impossible,, we have 11,143 titles from exactly 2,323 bands (TODAY) if ythis numbers don't change we will probably finish this polls by 2068 and use the badwith of 25 sites like this one.
The team must do it and accept suggestuions from the members in specific and conflictoive cases.

Of course an album would only have one genre, although we could additionally display genre "votings" by reviews.
And of course it would be much work, but:
- I think it would really be worth it, and I'd gladly do the job (at least for my "base genre")
- We would only have to edit the albums which differ from the artist genre.

Thanks for the numerous comments! Here my thoughts so far.. - Sorry, we will not delete NON-PROG albums
- I like the non-prog albums ideas, it's simplier but not really helpful for the visitors. How about , when an album is non-prog: leave a open field to give more details about the genre of thre records. Ex: Non-prog: Classic Rock 70's, Pop
- This brings a new subjects, does an album can have more than 1 genre ?
Ex: Prog Metal, RIO
So are SLEEPY TIME GORILLA MONSTER records ? NP: NHL playoffs 2006 ;-)

Depends what you want the site for. But anyone wanting to find an entire discography of a band will look elsewhere ratjer than here.
Anyway, you and I would argue over which albums were prog or not.
