FOREVER CLASSIC MUSIC OF THE XX CENTURY!!! This is another album that a time listened to... It will do it enchant yourselves some Classic Music of XX Century! It is not of evening an album Symphonic, because has a lot pf sub genre inclusive in this eternal Masterpiece. That genius Robert Fripp! "21st Century Schizoid Man including Mirrors" is a piece of Prog Metal (like a lot make note me), even if is too Prog! Large everything, but above all Fripp and Lake (listened to attentive the test of Giles at the drum, also), "I Talk To The Wind" is a sweet example of Pure Symphonic Prog, really immortal (is an of the better songs of the Crimson), "Epitaph including March For No Reason and Tomorrow And Tomorrow" is a piece to the VDGG that nevertheless can be put next to the pieces of Genesis (Gabriel Era), Gentle Giant without disfigure. And yet it is a song with a large personality! Besides it is totally different from "21st Century..." showing that the Prog has a lot (too much?) sub genre that often are alone variations of a same sub genre also to the inside of a same sub genre (hope to have expressed well the concept...). "Moonchild including The Dream and The Illusion" begins with a Jazz that in reality is not Jazz but Classic Music with a large work of Giles. Nevertheless then it it becomes too Psychedelic, improvvisation, Jazz free form, Futurism and Japanese music. Well, a sole many piece of Canterbury Scene! It Closes "The Court Of The Crimson king including The Return Of The Fire Witch and The Dance Of The Puppets" that return to the Hard Rock but if with enormous amounts of the Uriah Heep more Prog and an atmosphere a little one (but very little) more (and this is weird) cheerful. That album, mister, that album! It does not seem not even carved in 1969! For always yours, Mandrakeroot. ---------- Forgot this one in the spamming attention. |

frank, james and rem_bot_357 are all abusing the system - it's plain from reading the reviews that these are pathetic attempts to lower the position of disliked albums in the charts and raise the position of favoured albums. Not only that, but often it's exactly the same badly worded review for each album - just one or two written differently. I say remove all reviews by all of "these users" - and if "they" complain, then ask them awkward questions. I think they're the same user trying to manipulate the system. From what I've read, none of the reviews by "these users" are particularly valid either - but that's just my opinion... |

I think these users are trying to discredit this site by posting nonsense reviews. Please don't let them do it. If the reviews had to pass a minimum quality control before being released this would not occur.

GENESIS "Foxtrot"
by Defonic (Matthew Berka) Is this the second best prog record ever made? Like it was in Mojoīs list? No, absolute not. It is not even second best Genesis album, far away from Selling England, Lamb or Trick. It has one masterpiece, Supperīs Ready, but thatīs it. First side is not so great, Watcher or Friday are overrated Genesis songs. this was a disapointment to me and to the world. this album just is plane crap. But they were going to right direction...
Not much contribution to understanding what Genesis music is about. Just an anger.

First, the good news. The creativity and imagination on this album is without peer, intriguing and surprisingly
original for 1971. There are different sounds and rhythms on every song and the lyrics are wildly fantastic and
deceptively intricate. The bad news is that the production quality is very low and embarrasingly juvenile. Even
with the newer remastered cd I just got it sounds muddy and overly disjointed at times. I take into
consideration that this was only their 3rd studio album and it featured two new members in Collins and
Hackett and I give them a lot of leeway because of it. But there's really no excuse for the awful engineering
and the producer's overseeing of the album as a whole. Yes put out "The Yes Album" and ELP released
"Tarkus" at the same time and both of them are outstandingly tight arrangement-wise and truly high- fidelity.
So where do I rank this one? It still possesses some of the best tunes in prog rock, especially "Musical Box,"
"Giant Hogweed," and "Fountain of Salmacis." Peter was still finding his voice but his artistic enthusiasm still
shines through and Phil's amazing drumming keeps the album on the up and up througout. But, again, the
sound is amateurish and puts me off every listen and it's not something I can totally hold against the band
members. It just seems like someone in their organization could have realized that other bands in their niche
of music were turning out records that were revolutionizing studio techniques at that time and they could
have sought out better producers and engineers to work with. Still a classic, but nowhere near SEBTP, The
Lamb or even TOTT. Take this one with a grain of salt. ---------------- GENESIS "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" by hardno_re
well this album is somewhat overrated, I think. Not bad, but it should not be allowed near the top 10. It is by
no means a masterpiece, and while it has some very good stuff, it is largely disapointing after the four
previous albums. Disc One is pretty good, as one disc it is a little less good than Selling England. It has lots of strong tracks, including the uplifting (if somewhat poppy) title track, Fly on a Windshield, which is an awesome Egyptian synth dirge, similar to Kashmir by Zep. In the Cage is another great one, listen to it on here if you want, classic dark Genesis. Back in NYC I guess you could call proto punk, because of the verse melody and lyrics, but it doesn't sound like punk to me very much. All in all, very good song, especially the chorus. Hairless Heart is a haunting, melancholy instrumental. Very good. Carpet Crawlers, everyone knows it is great, fantastic melody. Chamber of 32 doors is a nice song as well, combining sections of what sounds like Trespass-era Genesis, Beatles, and... America? Of one of those southern-esque American rock bands. Still, very good. Now the duds of disc 1... Broadway melody of 1974 is the same little chord progression for 30 seconds, it's pleasant, but pointless, and should have been part of Fly on a Windshield. Cuckoo Cucoon is another somewhat pointless song which does little for me. It's pretty much just a catchy regular song, not quite pop. Grand Parade of Lifeless Packaging isn't really a dud I guess, it's strange and catchy and I like it, but all these puny short songs ruin it for me. That was what I didn't like about the Wall. Give me somethig epic! Oh well. Counting Out Time is a terrible pop song in the style of I know What I Like. SKIP! Disc Two fares less well with me. There are very few incredible tracks, while there were a handful on Disc One. it starts off with the semi-straight forward hard rock of Lilywhite Lilith, which is an enjoyable song. The waiting room is terrible for the most part, but about 3 minutes in, if you could handle 3 minutes of pointless noisemaking, then some cool riffs come in, and it is kind of uplifting. Anyway is an underrated little gem on here, it really reminds me of Trespass. Dark, and catchy, and great mellotron interludes. Good stuff. Here comes the supernaturl anaesthetist... Starts off with a terrible poppy melody: Check. Overtly bright and poppy instrumental parts: Check. Pointless filler: Double check. The Lamia is an alright song, if a little boring. The melodies are all alright, none are outstanding. The best part is this Zelda esque synth line Banks plays a couple of times. Kind of a sad, melancholic song, maybe too much so. Silent Sorrow is cool and ambient, but too long. FILLER! Slippermen starts off strangely, pointing to the world-music direction Gabriel would take in later years. The main verses are alright, but the goofy voices make me want to die. Most of the melodies are pretty good, really a fairly enjoyable track, but the subject matter kills it. Rael, the main character must be castrated to escape the Colony, and there is much innuendo and such. Bleah. Ravine is the best filler I have ever heard. Haunting, dark, scary, original. That said, it is two minutes of the same thing over and over, therefore, Filler. The light dies down is by far the best song on Disc 2. Kind of psychedelic, same great melodies from the first song of the album. Good song. Slower and more haunting as well. Riding the Scree is alright, but is largely filler. Strange rhtyhm, which is kind of cool, but for the most part is pointless keyboard w**kery, although parts are noteworthy. The lyrics and melody are nothing special, and the goofy voice here always makes me cringe. In the rapids is an alright song, sounds like Gabriel solo to me though. Alright melodies, slow and pleasant. Alright track, nothing that special. That said, 0.5 stars rounded up to 1. -------- once again,spam...as for the Genesis reviews....gimme a break.... |

Indeed - but be careful about banning users - "Defonic" has posted some sane reviews in the past. Someone is spoofing users and posting under different account names - you could be next... Mind you, if someone posted gibberish and used my account, no-one would suspect a thing...
