GG's Octopus might be better, but my vote goes to Can's Ege Bamyasi.

It's a tie between Close to the Edge and Fragile for me.

Foxtrot followed pretty Closely by Close to the Edge with Thick as a Brick
coming in 3rd.
One likes to believe
In the freedom of music
But glittering prizes
And endless Compromises
Shatter the illusion
Of integrity

I have to say Foxtrot because of Watcher of the Skies and Supper's Ready.
Personally, I'm more a fan of 1973:
ELP- Brain Salad Surgery
Pink Floyd- Dark Side of the Moon
Genesis- Selling England by the Pound

I voted Foxtrot a real tough choice with some of those other great albums, but to be fair I havn't heard a lot of those cd's on the list such as PFM and Soft Machine, I eventually get some of their stuff, they're listed on my gigantic list of albums I have to buy.

Yes - Fragile

Mainly because of tracks like South Side of the Sky, Long Distance Runaround, Heart of the Sunrise...

I just find it truly amazing that Yes could make two FANTASTIC albums in one year --- they actually recorded 2 albums in 1 year, and both are impressive.

I just wish I could have voted for both Yes albums...

Can-Utility, Watcher and of course the definitive epic Supper's Ready are too strong for anything else.

FOXTROT
The rest is silence....

Can's Ege Bamyasi is an underappreciated gem of 1972 in this website IMHO.
